Welcome to South Pacific Fiji...

Located in the heart of the Pacific, 3 hours flying north of Auckland. Viti Levu is the largest island with the capital of Suva and Vanua Levu being the second largest, making up 85% of the land mass. These islands are primarily of volcanic origin and high rugged terrain typifies this aspect, of which there are over 300, 100 are inhabited. Fiji’s islands are scattered across 230,000 kms although many are uninhabited. The smaller islands are made up of coral or limestone and are often without running water. Many are surrounded wholly or partly by reefs with lagoons that provide spectacular underwater scenery.

Climate

Fiji is blessed with a warm tropical climate year round. The summer months from November to April are generally classed as the "wet season" with an average temperature of 26ºC and the winter months from May to October the average temperature is 24ºC. There are geographical variances that alter these averages, rainfall and prevailing winds on all islands.

Languages

English is the official language with Fijian and Hindustani also widely used. The larger resorts have multi-lingual staff.

 Population

Total population of Fiji is approximately 800,000 - 50% are native Fijian and 46% of Indian origin. The balance are Chinese, European and other Pacific Islanders.

Cook Islands – Rarotonga & Aitutaki

The Cook Islands offer the visitor a safe, friendly tropical holiday with a varied mix of small personal properties and several medium sized resorts. Self catering and easy driving provide independence if you want a do your- own-thing type of holiday, and many resorts offer jeep, car or scooter hire packages.

Located at the heart of the Polynesian Triangle, with Tonga to the West and Tahiti to the East, on the same time zone as Hawaii. Made up of 15 beautiful coral islands scattered over 850,000 square kms, of which Rarotonga is the largest (67 square kms), with a small central mountain range and a flat coastal area surrounded by a magnificent reef. Several outer islands can be reached for day trips or overnight accommodation Aitutaki, Mauke, Atiu, Mitiaro and Mangaia.

Climate

The warm pleasant year round weather offers little seasonal variation however drier months are usually from April to November while the more humid and damp months are generally between December to March.

Population

The total population for the Cook Islands is approximately 19,500, with Rarotonga the largest island being the most inhabited with an estimated population of 9,500.

Local Customs

In the Cook Islands local dress is informal, however brief attire is not acceptable in town or in the villages. Nude or topless sunbathing will cause offence. To visit or participate in the musically inspiring local church services, will require conservative dress.

Aitutaki

Suitable as a daytrip, but best enjoyed over a few days. Only 220kms north of Rarotonga is the beautiful and enchanting island of Aitutaki, surrounded by a 45 km lagoon that is bursting with fish of all varieties and many small uninhabited Motu's (islands) along the fringes of the lagoon.  

 Easy going and easy to get around, The Cook Islands offers both the traveller and the tourist a small accessible country where the magic and tranquillity is matched only by the people  themselves.
