Day 1 - Arrive Christchurch
Welcome to Christchurch, the South Island's largest city and the gateway
to some of the most spectacular scenery that can be seen in the South
Pacific

Day 2 - Christchurch to Fox Glacier
Board the Tranzalpine Express to travel across the Canterbury Plains and
through spectacular gorges to the Southern Alps and on to the Westland
National Park, a World Heritage Site. This is an area of primitive towering
rainforests and the amazing Franz and Fox Glaciers and of course the snow-capped
mountains and crystal clear lakes.

Day 3 - At Fox Glacier
This morning, take a guided walk on the Fox Glacier, wearing special boots.

Day 4 - Fox Glacier to Queenstown
Today the scenery changes dramatically as the coach journeys through the
Haast Pass to the high-country grasslands of Otago. Pass by Lake Hawea
and Wanaka on route to Queenstown.

Day 5 - Queenstown

year old steamship. The tour ends here today in Queenstown.

Welcome to the South Island's largest city of Christchurch aptly named
the "Garden City of the South Pacific" for a day of relaxation or additional
sightseeing.

Day 2 - Christchurch to Dunedin
Journey south by coach along the East Coast to Dunedin, a city of Scottish
heritage, illustrated by striking Edwardian and Victorian architecture
and alive with great pubs and lively music.

Day 3 - At Dunedin
This morning is free to explore the city more. Dunedin is home to the
world's rarest penguin, the Blue Penguin and the world's only mainland
colony of Royal Albatross. Visit the colony this afternoon, followed by
a cruise on Otago Peninsula, to view the seals and shag colonies.
Day 4 - Dunedin to Te Anau
Fiordland is the home to some of the best walking and marvellous sightseeing
that is available in the world. Explore the world's largest National Park;
experience majestic waterfalls, shimmering lakes, granite peaks and lonely
fjords. Arrive at Te Anau, the jumping off point for Milford and the Milford
Track. On summer evenings a visit to the Te Anau Glow Worm Caves is included.

Day 5 - Te Anau to Milford Sound (D)
The coach descends into Milford Sound, the most famous and accessible

Mariner" (or similar) where dinner is included.

Day 8 - Queenstown to Christchurch
From Queenstown, the coach descends onto the Canterbury Plains and continue
on towards Christchurch, where your tour ends today.

Day 1: Christchurch - Kaikoura
Travel today by train, the 'Coastal Pacific', north over the plains and
into the mountains. Then enjoy an exciting ride up the narrow coastal
strip, with pounding surf on one side and the sheer Kaikoura ranges on
the other. At Kaikoura, if the weather is suitable, take your optional
Whale Watch tour today. Overnight Kaikoura.
Day 2: Kaikoura - Blenheim - Nelson
Another oportunity for the Whale Watch tour, or to see some of the other
wildlife, such as seals and penguins. Mid morning rejoin the Coastal Pacific
and continue up the beautiful Kaikoura coast to Blenheim. Here, board
a coach to pass vineyards and cross the forested Rai Saddle to Nelson.
Stay 2 nights in Nelson.
Day 3: At Nelson - Abel Tasman National Park Tour
Your full day tour of this beautiful park includes pick up and drop off
at your hotel. After a short coach journey, travel by launch (boat) from
the golden sands of Kaiteriteri beach into the park. Cruise through the
blue waters, next to lush native forests, marine life, and idyllic coves
and inlets. There are many opportunities to walk in the park before returning
to Nelson about 5 pm.
Day 4: Nelson - Greymouth
Travel south to Inangahua junction where you turn west. A thrilling drive
down the rocky chasm and green waters of the Buller Gorge brings you to
the West Coast. Your tour visits the Punakaiki 'pancake' rocks, an unusual
layer formation of sandstone pillars jutting out into the sea. From there
you are taken on an guided tour of the Paparoa National Park, featuring
weird limestone formations among spectacular scenery. You also hear about
local Maori myths and legends. Continue south to Greymouth for an overnight
stay.
Day 5: Greymouth - Glaciers
Travel south past surf beaches, wild rivers and dense forests. Your coach
will stop at various points - the Giant Matai Tree and tranquil and remote
lakes with a chance to see the beautiful Kotuku (white heron bird). Upon
reaching the Glaciers you will join a guided walk to the start of one
of these great ice rivers. Overnight at the Glaciers.
Day 6: Glaciers - Queenstown
Continue deeper into South Westland before the beautiful Haast River guides
us inland, past towering mountains and up wild river valleys. Over the
pass, cruise through the verdant forests of the Makarora valley to spectacular
lakes Wanaka and Hawea. Lake Dunstan and the steep and rugged Kawarau
Gorge historic goldmining area lead us into world famous Lake Wakatipu
and Queenstown for three nights stay. Overnight Queenstown.
Day 7: Queenstown - Milford Sound - Queenstown
Alongside Lake Wakatipu to Kingston then across country to Fiordland and
the beautiful ice carved Eglinton and Hollyford Valleys, with their ancient
beech forests. The Homer Tunnel and the awesome Cleddau Canyon prelude
a cruise on magnificent Milford Sound, including Mitre peak, rising nearly
a kilometre straight up out of the sea and Bowen falls. Return to Queenstown
for tonight's stay.
Day 8: At Queenstown

with milky blue lakes. Drive north to Mt Cook National Park to see New
Zealand's highest mountain. Optional lunch at the Hermitage Hotel or perhaps
a scenic ski-plane flight. Continue past picturesque Lake Tekapo with
its charming stone church then over Burke Pass to the checkerboard Canterbury
plains, reaching Christchurch at 6.15 pm.

Oamaru and along the rocky Palmerston coastline before climbing around
Mt Cargill and dropping down into Dunedin - the Edinburgh of the South.
Arrive early afternoon - time for optional local tours or sight seeing.

Day 2: Dunedin - Invercargill
The morning is free for shopping or optional trips to see the albatross
and other wildlife on the peninsula. In the afternoon, travel through
the rich green pastures of Otago and Southland to Invercargill. Overnight

Day 3: Invercargill - Te Anau
The morning and early afternoon are free for optional local sightseeing,
shopping or perhaps a trip to remote and unspoilt Stewart Island. In the
afternoon, travel north to Gore where you catch the connection across
to Te Anau in Fiordland. Stay two nights at Lake Te Anau, surrounded by
ancient untouched forests and mountains.
Day 4: Doubtful Sound tour
Today we have included the Doubtful Sound tour featuring lakes, forests,
mountains, rivers and sea. Travel by boat across Lake Manapuori, take
a coach deep into the earth to see the incredible West Arm underground
power station, climb out and over the Wilmot Pass and cruise again by
boat on magnificent Doubtful Sound - a remote sea inlet. Return to Te
Anau for tonight's stay.
Day 5: Te Anau - Milford Sound - Queenstown
The ice carved valleys of Fiordland National Park are the venue for today's
journey. First, the silent beech forests of the Eglinton and Hollyford
Valleys, then through the Homer tunnel and the awesome Cleddau Canyon.
A boat cruise on Milford Sound taking you out to Mitre Peak, rising nearly
a kilometre straight up out of the sea and the tumbling Bowen Falls is
included. Leaving Fiordland, head north along the shores of Lake Wakatipu
to world famous Queenstown. Two nights stay in Queenstown.
Day 6: At Queenstown

Day 1: Christchurch - Dunedin
Travel today on the Southerner train. Sit back and enjoy the scenery as
you cross the checkerboard plains, through seaside Timaru, whitestone
Oamaru and along the Palmerston coastline before climbing around Mt Cargill
and dropping down into Dunedin - the Edinburgh of the South. Arrive early
afternoon with time for shopping or sight seeing. Overnight in Dunedin.
Day 2: Dunedin - Taieri Gorge - Queenstown
The morning is free for optional city tours or to visit the albatross
colony and other wildlife on the peninsula. In the afternoon, journey
on the spectacular Taieri gorge train before transferring to your coach.
Travel up the Clutha river valley through Central Otago, Cromwell, Lake
Dunstan and the rocky and rugged Kawarau Gorge historic goldmining area,
to beautiful Lake Wakatipu and Queenstown. Stay 3 nights in Queenstown.
Day 3: Queenstown - Milford Sound - Queenstown
Alongside Lake Wakatipu to Kingston then across country to Fiordland and
the beautiful ice carved Eglinton and Hollyford Valleys, with their beech
forests. The Homer Tunnel and the awesome Cleddau Canyon prelude a cruise
on magnificent Milford Sound, including Mitre peak, rising nearly a kilometre
straight up out of the sea and Bowen falls. Return to Queenstown for tonight's
stay.
Day 4: At Queenstown
A full day for you to enjoy this fabulous resort and area. We have included
the Skyline Gondola and the Kiwi Magic Movie in your tour. There are dozens
of optional activities as well - thrilling jetboating on the rivers -
white water rafting - helicopters through the river chasms - A.J. Hackett's
world famous bungy jumping - cruises on Lake Wakatipu on the vintage 'TSS
Eamslaw' - High Country sheep stations - gold panning - spectacular walking

Day 5: Queenstown - Glaciers
Leaving Queenstown, go back through the Kawarau Gorge and past Lake Dunstan.
Then turn west to Lakes Hawea and Wanaka before climbing the forest lined
Makarora valley to Haast Pass. Once over the pass, wind your way through
towering snowy mountains and over rushing white water rivers to the coast.
Travel north through dense rain forest, home of the graceful white heron
(Kotuku) and past wild surf beaches to the Glaciers. Overnight the Glaciers.
Day 6: Glaciers - Christchurch
Continuing north along the West Coast until Greymouth where you transfer
to the famous TranzAlpine Express. This magnificent scenic train journey
takes you through and over the mountains of the southern alps, the Otira
tunnel and Arthur's pass. Finally, the steep and spectacular Waimakariri
gorge brings you down to the checkerboard Canterbury plains and Christchurch
at 6.35 pm.

vessel stops at various places of geographic and historical interest in
an area surrounded by wildlife and ancient forest. Return to Te Anau.
DAY 4: Te Anau/Milford Sound/Queenstown (subject
to road and weather conditions)
Travel by coach from Te Anau for your cruise on Milford Sound. View the
spectacular scenery and many points of interest as you venture the full
length of the sound to the Tasman Sea. Return to the wharf at Milford
Sound and then return by coach to Queenstown.

Today is a short journey from Queenstown to Wanaka travelling through
the Kawarau Gorge and Cromwell. Upon arrival at Wanaka there is much to
see and do. Lose yourself in the Maze or perhaps take a launch trip on
the lake, but a must is the Wanaka War Birds Museum at the Wanaka Airport.
DAY 6: Wanaka/Franz Josef
Travel north today past Lake Hawea. Enjoy the rugged West Coast scenery
through the Haast Pass and continue on to Franz Josef, arriving approximately
3.50pm. We suggest a scenic helicopter flight or guided tour (own expense)
to view the glacier more closely and enjoy the stunning scenery this region
has to offer.
DAY 7. Franz Josef/Christchurch
Resume the LK1 tour today, travelling to Greymouth to board the scenic
