RENTAL CONDITIONS
This document contains a summary of some of the Rental Conditions. For full detailed Conditions refer to the Conditions schedule in the Rental Agreement. Please note all prices quoted in this document are in New Zealand dollars. Rates and conditions quoted in our brochures and/or documentation are subject to change without notice.
RENTAL DURATION
When calculating the number of days a vehicle is rented, the day of pick up is counted as day one of the rental, regardless of pick up time. The day of the vehicle's return is counted as the final day of the rental. When a rental moves from one rate season into the next, the calculation is based on both rates.
ONE WAY RENTALS
One-way rentals are available between all branch locations.

Queenstown: Daily from 0800 to 1800, 365 days per year.
Pick ups after branch hours may be available by prior arrangement. Late returns will be charged on a per day basis.
WELLINGTON
Mau is able to accommodate pre-arranged pick up and drop offs at our Wellington branch if required (on request only). For all pick up and drop offs in Wellington a charge will apply. Prices on application.

TRANSFER
Britz provides free airport to depot transfer on day of arrival and departure for our Auckland and Christchurch Branch. Queenstown Branch is located at the Airport.
FOR YOUR PROTECTION
Personal Injury is covered through the Accident Compensation Commission, however, Britz strongly recommends that all clients take out Personal Injury Travel Insurance.
Standard Excess
All vehicles are insured for the damage to the vehicle or to the property of a
Third Party. The hirer is responsible for the first NZ$5,000 ("The Excess")
of the cost of damage to third party property or to the rented vehicle, including
single verhicle accident, windscreen and tyre damage, overhead and underbody damage,
towing and recovery costs. This also includes the cost of the daily rental for
the period the vehicle is off fleet for accident repairs (demurrage). The excess
applies in respect of each claim, not rental.
The excess is applicable regardless of who is at fault and must be paid at the
time the accident report is completet, not at the completion of the rental. The
excess will be refunded if we are successful in recovering the cost of the damages
from the third party.
This excess can be reduced, in most circumstances, by the purchase of Excess Reduction Option 1 or Excess Reduction Option 2.
Excess Reduction Option I
Cost per day: NZ$25.00 (max charge NZ$1,250)
Excess reduced to NZ$2,000
With Excess Reduction Option I the hirer is responsible for the first NZ$2,000 of any accident (except in the case of any of the exclusions below) of the cost of damage to third party property or to the rented vehicle, including single verhicle accident, windscreen and tyre damage, overhead and underbody damage, towing and recovery costs, fire, theft or break-in. This also includes the cost of the daily rental for the period the vehicle is off fleet for accident repairs (demurrage). The excess applies in respect of each claim, not rental.
Excess Reduction Option II
Cost per day: NZ$35.00 (max charge NZ$1,750)
Excess reduced to NZ$0
With Excess Reduction Option II the hirer will not have to pay any excess at accident (except in the case of any of the exclusions below) for any damage to the vehicle or property if a third party.
Exclusions
1) Standard Excess, Excess Reduction Option I and Excess Reduction II do not cover damage caused by water submersion or salt water damage.
2) Personal belongings are not covered. We recommend the hirer does not leave valuables in the vehicle and that take out personal insurance.
3) All Excess Reduction is void if the terms of the Rental Agreement are breached. The hirer will be responsible for the total cost of any damage. This will also include any damage caused by willful conduct (e.g. sitting or standing on the bonnet or roof of the vehicle) and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
4) Standard Excess, Excess Reduction Option I & II does not cover the incorrect use of fuel (fuel being diesel or petrol). The hirer will be responsible for any associated cost.
5) The hirer will be responsible for the cost to retrieve or recover a vehicle, which has become bogged, regardless of the Excess Reduction Package taken.
6) The hirer will be responsible for the cost to replace keys which have become lost, or retrieval of keys which have been locked in a vehicle.
VEHICLE SECURITY DEPOSIT
On pick up of the vehicle, a Vehicle Security Deposit is payable. The amount is determined by the Protection Package selected. If you do not take Excess Reduction Opton 1 or 2, the Security Deposit is NZ$5,000 payable by cash, Traveller's Cheques, or credit cards. Should the Deposit be paid by credit card, the amount will be debited to your account immediately.
If Excess Reduction Option 1 has been taken the Security Deposit is NZ$2,000 payable by cash, Traveller's Cheques, or credit cards. If paid by credit card, authorisation will be gained for the Security deposit.
If Excess Reduction Option 2 has been taken the Security Deposit is NZ$250 payable by cash, Traveller's Cheques, or signed credit card voucher.
The Security Deposit is fully refundable provided the vehicle is returned on time, undamaged, with a clean interior and with full fuel tanks (fuel being petrol, diesel and LPG gas). We reserve the right to retain a NZ$100 soiling fee if the vehicle is not returned with the interior in a clean condition. The toilet and waste water tank (if applicable) must be emptied prior to the return of the vehicle, or an additional NZ$100 soiling fee will be retained. Failure to return vehicle with full petrol or diesel tanks will result in refill charges. Petrol and diesel charges will be advised upon return of the vehicle. The refill charge for LPG gas is NZ$20. In the instance of Excess Reduction Option 1 and 2, the credit card voucher will be returned to the hirer.
INFRINGEMENTS
We reserve the right to charge the renter for any speeding or parking fines, associated administration costs and/or accidents including third party property damage not reported on return of the vehicle. The administration fee per fine will be NZ$50.
EXCHANGE RATE / CURRENCY VARIATIONS
All credit card transactions are conducted in New Zealand dollars. Due to exchange rate fluctuations there could be some variance in the amount refunded compared to the amount initially charged. Britz accepts no liability for any variances up or down.
CREDIT CARDS
If a credit card is presented as payment, the credit card holder will be jointly and severally liable as a customer. The following credit cards will be accepted: Bankcard, Visa Card, Mastercard, American Express.
LICENCE
A full resident country driver's licence, held for at least a year, is to be presented at the time of rental. If the licence is not in English format, an international drivers licence is also required.
MINIMUM AGE
Drivers must be 21 years of age or over. A medical certificate stating that the customer is fit to drive the vehicle they have booked for the duration of the hire is required for drivers over the age of 75.
MULTIPLE RENTALS
Should a hirer have more than one rental (multiple rental) then these rentals can be combinded to qualify the hirer for our long term rate. Motorhome and car rentals in Australia, New Zealand and Southern Africa, for both Britz and Maui, can be combined to qualify if travel is within a 3 month period. e.g. One 14 day rental plus one 7 day rental qualifies for the 21 day rate.
For pick ups and drop offs on the same day, the daily rental charge for the last day of the 1st rental will be charged, and the daily charge for the first day of the subsequent rental will not be charged. Charges for additional hire equipment will be charged per vehicle rented.
LIVING EQUIPMENT
The Living Equipment (crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils, linen, sleeping bags, pillows and towels) for all Motorhomes is included in the daily rental rate at no extra cost.
CHANGE OF DROP OFF DESTINATION
If the hirer wishes to change the drop off destination after the rental has commenced, they must first obtain authorisation from the Reservations Centre in Auckland. Subject to the change being approved, an additional charge of NZ$150 will apply.
RENTAL EXTENSION
If the hirer wishes to extend the rental whilst on hire, they must first obtain authorisation from the Reservations Centre in Auckland. This is subject to availability. The extra cost of an extended rental must be paid by credit card over the telephone on confirmatin of the rental extension. Failure to obtain authorisation will result in a fee of NZ$500 in addition to the daily rate. Britz allows a grace period of 24 hours before the hirer is liable for the late return fee.
ROAD RESTRICTIONS
Rental Cars can only be driven on sealed/bitumen or well-maintained roads. No vehicle shall be driven on Skippers Road (Queenstown), Ninety Mile Beach (Northland), Ball Hut Road (Mt. Cook) and North of Colville Township (Coromandel Peninsula). Britz reserves the right at its sole discretion to restrict vehicle movements in certain areas due to adverse road or weather conditions.
ON-ROAD ASSISTANCE
Any problems associated with the vehicl, including equipment failure, must be reported to Britz as soon as possible, and within 24 hours in order to give Britz the opportunity to rectify the problem during the rental. Failure to do so will compromise any claims for compensation. We do not accept liability for any claims submitted after this period.
REPAIRS
Repairs up to NZ$100 may be affected without authorisation and will be reimbursed. For amounts over NZ$100, Britz will need to be informed in advance. Repairs will be approved provided the hirer was not directly responsible for the damage. Receipts must be submitted for any repair or the claim will not be paid.
CHANGE OF VEHICLE
Should the vehicle booked be unavailable through unforeseen circumstances, Britz reserves the right to substitute an alternative vehicle without prior notification and at no extra cost. This shall not constitute a breach of contract and does not entitle the hirer to any refund.
VOLUNTARY DOWNGRADE
Should the hirer decide to take a smaller vehicle than booked they will not be entitled to any refund.
CANCELLATION FEE
The cancellation fees are:
If cancelled 25 days prior to pick-up: No Fee.
If cancelled from 24 to 6 days prior to pick-up: 15% of Rental
If cancelled 5 days or less prior to departure or a No Show: 50% of Rental
If vehicle is returned early for any reason whatsoever: No refund available
IMPORTANT
Britz reserves the right to refuse any rental at its discretion.
ANIMALS
No animals are permitted in our vehicles.
PERSONAL AND COMPANY CHEQUES
Personal and Company cheques will not be accepted as payment for rentals at the time of pick-up. These must be paid to Britz 14 days prior to commencement of rentals. Personal or Company cheques are not acceptable as the vehicle security deposit.
DISCLAIMER
Illustrations and text in any of our brochures or website are a representation only of the vehicle depicted. Variances in the vehicles offered for rental could occur due to substitutions made by Britz or modifications and/or upgrades to the vehicle design by the manufacturer.
