How to Use Your New Zealand Travelpass
Seat reservations are essential before you travel,
particularly during vacation periods and holiday weekends. A confirmed
reservation will guarantee a seat for you. Purchase of New Zealand Travelpass
does not guarantee you a seat on a service unless you hold a confirmed
booking for the service you intend to use.
Making a Seat Reservation
For coach, rail, ferry and air bookings call the
Travelpass Call Centre on: Reservations Tollfree Phone: 0800 33 99 66
(within New Zealand only) Please quote your New Zealand Travelpass ticket
number and PNR number/s when you call. (This information is provided when
you receive your Travelpass documentation.)
Reservations and Reporting Times
For coach travel - It is essential bookings are made
at least 3 hours prior to departure. Reporting time - 15 minutes prior
to departure.
For rail and ferry travel - It is essential bookings
are made at least 24 hours prior to departure. Reporting time for rail
- 15 minutes prior to departure. Reporting time for ferry services - 30
minutes prior to departure.
For air travel - It is recommended bookings are made
with as much notice as possible. Reporting/check in time - 30 minutes
prior to departure.
You may also make seat reservations through a local
New Zealand travel agent. A $NZ3.00 booking fee may be charged by a travel
agent. The New Zealand Travelpass timetable is available from travel agents
in New Zealand. This will assist you plan your New Zealand experience
itinerary. It includes all coach, rail and ferry services available to
holders of a New Zealand Travelpass.
Tickets
Coach - Once you have made your seat reservation/s
a ticket is not required as your New Zealand Travelpass is your identification
for travel. Please ensure you have your Travelpass handy when boarding
services. Your reservation will be checked against the driver's Passenger
Manifest.
Tranz Scenic Rail and The Interislander - Once you
have made your seat reservations you will need to obtain a ferry ticket
at the Wellington or Picton ferry terminal or at a Tranz Rail Travel Centre
in Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch.
Air New Zealand - Your air reservations will be made
by Travelpass and we will advise you of your booking reference. Your e-ticket
will be issued when you check in for your flight - simply quote your booking
reference. Please report at least 30 minutes prior to departure. Your
Air New Zealand ticket is valid for a through fare and travel must be
completed on the same day. Once issued, tickets are non-refundable, non-transferable
and non-upgradeable. For your convenience you should collect your flight
ticket at the same time as your New Zealand Travelpass. Open-dated tickets
are not permitted.
Travel Cancellations
Cancellation of travel must be advised via the freephone
number above at least 3 hours prior to departure. If you do not cancel
your reservation your journey will be counted as a day's use of the Travelpass.
Please refer here if you need to cancel your entire Travelpass.
Passenger Information
Luggage - Coach and Rail - As a guide, luggage should
not exceed two suitcases per person. Please present your luggage at the
coach, train or ferry before you board so your driver or attendant can
stow it. One small piece of hand luggage and/or personal items such as
camera, coat, umbrella, can be taken on board providing they do not inconvenience
other passengers or create a safety hazard. Total weight must not exceed
5 kilos. Excess luggage will be carried subject to space availability
and may be charged at $10 per item for coach and train services.
Bicycles/Large Objects - Most services carry bicycles,
surfboards, skis etc. - limit 1 item per person, subject to space availability.
Please observe the following: The bicycle chain must be covered with newspaper
and the pedals removed. $10 charge per coach/rail sector and reservations
essential (some trains cannot carry bicycles). $12 charge on The Interislander.
Smoking - Under the provisions of New Zealand Smoke
Free Environments Act 1990, all passenger services operated in New Zealand
are designated smoke free.
Your New Zealand Travelpass Operators
Intercity Coach Lines and Newman Coach
Lines
InterCity Coachlines and Newmans Coach Lines go almost
anywhere there's a road. Most coaches offering reclining seats, air conditioning
and panoramic view windows (other vehicle types may be used on some services).
Newmans coaches feature restroom, video and multilingual commentary facilities.
All services stop regularly for refreshments and restroom facilities.
New Zealand Travelpass holders may also use the coach services of selected
smaller operators who travel to more isolated regions.
Tranz Scenic
New Zealand Travelpass (3-in-One and 4-in-One options)
allows you two journeys on any of the eight Tranz Scenic train services.
This includes The Overlander, The Northerner, The Bay Express, The Kaimai
Express and The Geyserland in the North Island and The TanzAlpine, The
Tranz Coastal and The Southerner in the South Island.
(Please Note - As there is a full review of all
rail services operating within New Zealand currently being undertaken,
the information given on the Tranz Scenic train services above should
only be used as a guideline and we would suggest that you contact us for
further information at time of booking. Wisconsin Rail from the USA, the
owners of Tranz Scenic, recently sold off three of these journeys to West
Coast Rail Travel from Australia it is unclear as to what will happen
with the rest. The three journey that were sold and will contuinue to
operate are The Overlander which journey between Auckland and Wellington,
The Tranz Coastal which operates between Picton to Christchurch and The
Tranz Alpine which runs between from Christchurch and Greymouth.)
The Interislander
The only way to cruise Cook Strait! New Zealand Travelpass
allows you one crossing during the validity of your pass. The Interislander
Ferry offers convenient, regular daily services across Cook Strait, the
19 kilometre strait between Wellington and Picton. Travel time is approximately
3 hours. Enjoy a movie, a drink at the bar or a 3 course meal from the
restaurant.
The Lynx
The fast way across Cook Strait - just two hours
and 15 minutes. The Lynx is a high speed, 74 metre catamaran, operating
a summer timetable. 3-in-One and 4-in-One New Zealand Travelpass holders
may travel by either Lynx or Interislander. 2-in-One New Zealand Travelpass
holders will need to pay a small surcharge of $NZ13 to travel by Lynx.
This is payable at the Interislander ferry terminal. Featuring airline
style seating, bar facilities and on-board entertainment.
Air
New Zealand
Air New Zealand enjoys a proud position as a Pacific-based,
world-class airline serving 48 cities in 15 countries, including 26 destinations
within New Zealand. On Air New Zealand National services, light meals
are offered and bar service on selected services.
4-in-One New Zealand Travelpass holders may travel
on Air New Zealand National or Link services on the routes appropriate
to a long or short flight price. See here for definitions of short and
long flights.
Things You Should Know
Free Hotel pick up - Some services offer free pick
up from central accommodation prior to departure. Please check when you
make your seat reservations.
Additional travel - If you need to purchase additional
InterCity and/or Newmans coach travel, discounted rates are available.
These are subject to availability at your time of booking. Additional
rail sectors can also be purchased.
Air sectors - Short and long flights are defined
as follows: Short Flight - Any domestic flight within North or South Island
of New Zealand. Long Flight - Any domestic flight between North and South
Island of New Zealand. Exceptions: Auckland to Nelson or Blenheim or vice
versa is a short flight. Tauranga or Taupo or Napier to Nelson or vice
versa is a short flight.
Embargoed: Rotorua to Queenstown or vice versa. You
can fly to or from points close to these locations eg Rotorua to Invercargill,
Queenstown to Taupo, etc. Additional air sectors are available, limited
to 2 per person. Prices see below.

Terms and Conditions
Your Purchase and Use of New Zealand Travel Pass
is subject to the following Terms and Conditions:
Prices and Validity
All prices are inclusive of 12.5% government-imposed goods and services
tax (GST). Prices are valid until 30 September 2002. Prices are subject
to review without notice. New Zealand Travelpass is valid for four months
from the date of issue - travel must start within this period. Travel
must be completed within 6 months from the start date. Identification
may be required to verify the holder of the pass.
Children’s Fares
Special fares are available for infants and children up to 11 years of
age inclusive. Infants - 2 years and under: Must be carried on adult's
lap - no charge (one infant per child). Children - 11 years and under:
67% of the adult fare.
Travelpass Cancellations and Refunds
Once issued, a New Zealand Travelpass is non-refundable, non-transferable
and cannot be extended.
Services
New Zealand Travelpass may be used on the services of InterCity Coachlines,
Newmans Coach Lines and associated private coach companies, Tranz Scenic
Rail, The Interislander and The Lynx Ferries and Air New Zealand - depending
on the type of New Zealand Travelpass purchased.
Definitions
A 'day' of travel is a 24 hour period from the time of embarkation on
any service.
Terms and Conditions of Travel
New Zealand Travelpass holders are subject to the Terms and Conditions
of Travel of the operators of the services travelled on. Please refer
to the General Conditions of Carriage of Passenger Services of Tranz Rail
Ltd, InterCity Coachlines Ltd, Newmans Coach Lines and Air New Zealand
Conditions of Carriage and related conditions. These Terms and Conditions
are available from the carriers.
Liability
If for any reason the carriers cannot honour the Terms and Conditions
set out, then the liability shall be limited to the purchase price of
the New Zealand Travelpass purchased. New Zealand Travelpass Ltd accepts
no responsibility for timetable changes that may occur. The carriers reserve
the right to amend departure or arrival times and arrange alternative
services without notice. The carriers shall not be held responsible for
any loss or damages resulting from mechanical breakdowns, strikes, civil
disturbances, theft and/or delays or itinerary changes, which may involve
additional expense.
