Your Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1: Christchurch - Picton - Wellington
Travel today by train, the 'Coastal Pacific', north over the plains and
into the mountains. Then enjoy an exhilarating ride up the narrow coastal
strip, with pounding surf on one side and the sheer Kaikoura ranges on
the other. At Picton, catch one of the famous ferries down the long, narrow
Marlborough Sounds and into Cook Strait. Enjoy the sun decks, bars, cafes
and lounges as you look out for dolphins and whales before arriving in
Wellington, the Capital. Overnight in Wellington.
Day 2: Wellington - Rotorua
Leave the city for the rocky Kapiti coastline then the fertile Manawatu
plains. Further on, the Rangitikei area is impressive for its steep river
valleys and tablelands. Climb up to the volcanic plateau where the huge
mountains of Ruapehu, Ngaruahoe and Tongariro line your journey across
'The Desert Road'. Drop down to the deep blue waters of Lake Taupo and
then travel through Wairakei's geothermal steam clouds and the vast exotic
forests which line the road to Rotorua. We recommend you attend a Maori
hangi (feast) and concert tonight (optional). Stay 2 nights in Rotorua
Day 3: At Rotorua
The half day Grand Tour is included. You will see roaring geysers, boiling
mud pools and steaming lakes at the thermal area, tame trout and kiwi
at the springs and performing sheep and dogs at the Agrodome. This afternoon
is free - there are many activities to tempt you - such as bathing in
the thermal waters. For a small additional cost you could stay on a farm
tonight. Overnight in Rotorua.
Day 4: Rotorua - Waitomo - Auckland
After leaving Rotorua's volcanic charms, we travel to Waitomo Caves. A
tour of the caves including the world famous glow worm grotto is included.
Then on to Auckland via the Waikato Valley, Hamilton and the Bombay Hills.
The coach arrives in Auckland at 5.10 pm.

Day 1. Arrive Auckland
You will be met by a company representative and transferred to your hotel

Day 2. Auckland City Highlights (BD)
This morning join our Auckland Highlights Tour and experience this cosmopolitan
city. Tonight ride the Sky City elevator up to Orbit Revolving Restaurant
for wonderful views from Australasia's Highest tower.
Day 3. West Coast Explorer (B)
Today we enjoy a scenic drive alongside the forest-clad Waitakere ranges
to visit the rugged west coast, where surfers seek the perfect waves from
the Tasman sea. See fascinating black sand beaches and quaint coastal
settlements on this fascinating excursion.
Day 4. Cruise to Waiheke Island (B)
Cruise to Waiheke Island and enjoy a day at leisure, perhaps dine at a
stylish cafe, unwind and sunbathe on an unspoilt beach, walk through native
bush or explore Waiheke's scenic vineyards. Our return journey includes
sights of Auckland, City of Sails from it's sparkling harbour.
Day 5. Auckland at Leisure (BD)
So much to see and do in the Queen city- shopping, entertainment, Art
galleries, museums, many public gardens and walks and the viaduct harbour
where superyachts gather to be ready for America's Cup yacht racing. Tonight
enjoy our "dine around" where you choose from a selection of restaurants
and we pay!
Day 6. Bay of Islands Discovery (B)
Travel on our full day excursion to beautiful Bay of Islands where we
visit the Waitangi Treaty House and enjoy a spectacular high speed cruise
in the outer Bay to Cape Brett and the "hole in the rock" before our evening
return to Auckland.
Day 7. Depart Auckland (B)
Today is at leisure, depending on flight departure time until your included
transfer to Auckland airport.

Day 1: Auckland - Waitomo - Rotorua
The Bombay Hills signal the end of sprawling Auckland city as the lush
Waikato pasture lands take you past Hamilton and on to Waitomo caves.
Enjoy a subterranean boat ride under an eerie canopy of glow worm lights.
On across the Waikato and Mamaku Hills to fiery Rotorua. We recommend

Day 3: Rotorua - Wellington
Drive south through exotic pine forests, past Wairakei's permanent cover
of steam, to Lake Taupo. The majestic snow covered peaks of Tongariro,
Ngaruahoe and Ruapehu mountains line your journey over the Desert Road
plateau. After Waiouru, drop down through the steep valleys of the Rangitikei
district then the fertile plains of the Manawatu river. Coastal villages,
orchards and rocky seascapes bring you to Wellington at 4.1O pm. We have
included an evening tour of some of the Capital's highlights - the unusual
parliament buildings 'The Beehive', a cable car ride through the Botanic
Gardens and some spectacular harbour and city views. Overnight in Wellington
Day 4: Wellington - Auckland
Through the tunnels, around the rocky seascapes and across the rich horticultural
and dairy country to Palmerston North and Fielding. The OVERLANDER train
climbs up to the central volcanic plateau, around the foot of Mt Ruapehu
and then descends the Raurimu Spiral to the King Country. Through the
towns of Te Awamutu and Hamilton in the Waikato Valley then follow the
river north to Auckland City by 7.35 pm.

DAY 1: Wellington - Napier
You join the Bay Express train and travel along the rocky Kapiti Coast
to Palmerston North. The steep Manawatu Gorge takes you through the Tararua
mountains to southern Hawkes Bay and onto Napier, the Art Deco capital
of New Zealand. You will be met and taken on a wine tour to the vineyards,
as well as a tour of the district. Overnight in Napier
DAY 2: Napier - Rotorua
This morning is free - you can explore Napier, rebuilt after an eartquake
in 1931 in the Art Deco style. Your coach leaves after midday to take
you across the Rangitaiki Plains to deep blue Lake Taupo. Past Wairakei,
with its steam clouds, and on through vast pine forests to Rotorua where
you stay 2 nights.
DAY 3: At Rotorua

This morning board the award winnig TranzAlpine train for a spectacular
sceninc journey over the majestic Southern Alps to the wild and rugged
West Coast. Upon returning from our stunning rail adventure we enjoy a
farewell dinner.
Day 5. - Christchurch at Leisure (BD)
Today is yours to explore the shopping and sights of fascinating Christchurch
city. Visit the cathedral square, explore the boutiques and antique shops
or perhaps visit the museum and art gallery adjacent to beautiful Hagley
Park and Gardens. Tonight enjoy our "Dine around" where you choose from

Day 6. - Akaroa Explorer (B)
A fascinating excursion to the pretty harbour settlement of Akaroa, where
New Zealand was first settled by early French pioneers. Cruise the harbour
on a comfortable catamaran and visit a working cheese factory.

DAY 1: Christchurch - Blenheim - Nelson
Travel today by train, the TranzCoastal, north over the plains and into
the mountains. Then enjoy an exciting ride up the narrow coastal strip,
with pounding surf on one side and the sheer Kaikoura ranges on the other,
to Blenheim. Here, board a coach to pass vineyards and cross the forested
Rai Saddle to Nelson. Stay 2 nights in Nelson.
DAY 2: At Nelson - Abel Tasman National Park Tour
Your full day tour of this beautiful park includes pick up and drop off
at your hotel. After a short coach journey, travel by launch (boat) from
the golden sands of Kaiteriteri beach into the park. Cruise through the
blue waters, next to lush native forests, marine life, and idyllic coves
and inlets. There are many opportunities to walk in the park before returning
to Nelson about 5 pm.
DAY 3: Nelson - Greymouth
Travel south to Inangahua junction where you turn west. A thrilling drive
down the rocky chasm and green waters of the Buller Gorge brings you to
the West Coast. Your tour visits the Punakaiki 'pancake' rocks, an unusual
layer formation of sandstone pillars jutting out into the sea. From there
you are taken on an guided tour of the Paparoa National Park, featuring
weird limestone formations among spectacular scenery. You also hear about
local Maori myths and legends. Continue south to Greymouth for an overnight
stay.
DAY 4: Greymouth - Christchurch
The morning is free. In the afternoon, transfer to the famous TranzAlpine
Express for a scenic train ride over Arthurs Pass with its giant snow
capped mountains and thick forests. The Otira tunnel brings you to the
steep and exhilirating Waimakariri river gorge and down to the Canterbury
plains. Arrive in Christchurch on the East Coast at 6.35 pm.

Across the Canterbury plains to seaside Timaru, whitestone Oamaru and
the Palmerston coastline before crossing the hills to Dunedin. In the
afternoon, travel up the Clutha river valley through Central Otago, Cromwell,
Lake Dunstan and the rocky and rugged Kawarau Gorge goldmining area to
world famous Lake Wakatipu and Queenstown. Stay 3 nights in Queenstown.
Day 2: Queenstown - Milford Sound - Queenstown
Alongside Lake Wakatipu to Kingston then across country to Fiordland and
the beautiful ice carved Eglinton and Hollyford Valleys, with their dense
beech forests. The Homer Tunnel and the awesome Cleddau Canyon prelude
a cruise on magnificent Milford Sound, including Mitre peak, rising nearly
a kilometre straight up out of the sea and Bowen falls. Return to Queenstown
for tonight's stay.
Day 3: At Queenstown
A full day for you to enjoy this fabulous resort - we have included the
Skyline Gondola and the Kiwi Magic Movie in your tour. There are dozens
of optional activities as well - thrilling jet boating on the rivers -
white water rafting - helicopters through the river chasms - A.J.Hackett's
world famous bungy jumping - cruises on the lake on the vintage 'TSS Earnslaw'

Day 4: Queenstown - Mt Cook - Christchurch
Back through the gorge and then north over the Lindis Pass to reach the
MacKenzie basin. This magnificent area is lined on all sides by mountains
and spotted with milky blue lakes. Cross to Mt Cook National Park, home
of New Zealand's highest mountain. Optional lunch at the Hermitage Hotel
or perhaps a ski plane flight over the glaciers. On past scenic Lake Tekapo,
with its stone church, over Burke Pass and Fairlie to Geraldine and the
Canterbury Plains. Broad rivers and wide open spaces bring you to Christchurch
at 6.15 pm.
