General Information
Experience
one of the last frontiers Canada has to offer in historic Whitehorse.
Located on the mighty Yukon River, Whitehorse was founded during the Klondike
Gold Rush and developed into a communication and transportation centre
during the construction of the Alaska Highway. Today, Whitehorse is a
contemporary, regional service centre for the entire territory, offering
a mix of pioneer spirit and urban sophistication.
With time to discover all that Whitehorse has to offer including the MacBride Museum, a charming log cabin featuring intriguing archaeological, historical and mining exhibits, the nearby original cabin of famous Yukoner, Sam McGee. There is the Yukon Transportation Museum displaying items belonging to the First Nations' people or stop by the new Yukon Beringia Interpretative Centre for a glimpse of the history and culture of Canada's First People.
Come aboard the fully-restored SS Klondike paddle wheeler berthed on the Yukon River, take a cruise through Miles Canyon where many an unfortunate gold rusher smashed their boats or see the full size replica of the Queen of the Yukon, sister airplane of the Spirit of St. Louis. In the evening, join the fun watching the Can-Can show at the Frantic Follies Vaudeville Revue. But the highlight of this escape will be the scenic float trip along 4 kilometres of smooth water on the mighty Yukon River, accompanied by guides in Gold Rush era costumes.
