Information

This authentic native experience will immerce you in the rich cultural environment of the indigenous people of the Great North American Plains. You'll observe and participate in some of the unique traditions and ceremonies at Eagle's Nest Indian Village, on the banks of Old Man River in southern Alberta. Learning from native elders, you will take part in a teepee raising ceremony, help build a traditional sweat lodge, see ancient dances and visit one of North America's best preserved buffalo jumps. Old Man River also offers a chance to canoe or fish while nearby trails are available for a hiking or horseback riding adventure.

Location

Eagle's Nest is approx 2 1/4 hours south of Calgary.

Accommodation

You will stay in an authentic native teepee (or tipi), which comfortably sleeps 2 to 4 people on single beds. Hot and Cold water are available by the cook teepee. Traditional meals are served in the main teepee, by the central fire or outdoors. Picnic lunches are provided for day excursions.

Children

Young persons under 18 MUST be accompanied by an adult. The programme is not recommended for children under 12 years of age.

NATIVE TEEPEE CAMPING - Nr. Fort MacLeod, Alberta

Information

An authentic Blackfeet heritage experience including evening storytelling, guided hikes, an interpretive programme and accommodation in a Blackfeet teepee, near Fort MacLeod in southern Alberta. A Blackfeet guide willenhance your appreciation of this rich and ancient culture. Visit Head-Smashed-In-Buffalo-Jump, designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and one of the largest, oldest and best preserved buffalo jump sites found on the western plains. The Interpretive Centre documents the buffalo hunting culture of the Plains people from ancient times and includes a film theatre and guided tours along two kilometres of outdoor trails.

Location

Head-Smashed-In is near Fort MacCloud, approx. 2 1/2 hours south of Calgary.

Accommodation

Accommodation is in canvas teepees, including a camping wood stove and a flashlight. Western style dinners are served in the teepees. Showers and a cafeteria are available at the Interpretive Centre.

Children

No restrictions. No reductions.

Please Note:

Sleeping Bags are available for rent. In the event of poor weather an alternative programme will be scheduled. Bring warm clothing, rain gear and a day pack etc.
Transfers from Calgary are not included, therefore CAR RENTAL is recommended.
