HELI-HIKING IN THE ROCKIES - Jasper, Alberta

Hiking, high altitude helicopter flight. 1 Day

General Information

1 Day from Jasper/Valemount - Explore the mountains as they really are: majestic, unspoiled and absolutely breathtaking. Nestled in these mountains, are several luxury lodges some accessible only by helicopter and hosting limited numbers of guests. Using the helicopter to explore the surrounding 1,000sq. miles of mountain terrain, you can enjoy the rewards of alpine hiking with very little effort.

Walk or hike all day with many opportunities to stop at various points of interest, have a snack or a rest. You will be accompanied by a fullly-certified mountain guide who is personable and knowledgeable about the geology, history and botany of the area, and enjoy a picnic or Barbeque Lunch. This one day excursion provides the perfect taste of alpine adventure for those wanting a thrill but have limited time.

7 am – From Jasper, drive west into British Columbia and then south to the town of Valemount

9 am – Meet at Valemount Lodge and transfer to the heli-pad. Enjoy a full day of Heli-Hiking including lunch on a mountaintop. At the end of the day return to the Lodge for a drink & snack.

5 pm – Approximate time of departure for Jasper 7 pm – Approximate arrival in Jasper.

OPTIONAL: Transfers to/from Valemount not included. An optional pick-up in Jasper is available for an additional charge of £15 one way per person.

General Information

Heli-hiking is the peak of all hiking experiences. After an awe-inspiring helicopter ride into the heights of the Rockies, professionally certified mountain guides will help you explore previously unreachable mountain ridges, glacier icefields and sheltered alpine meadows. Your accommodation is at the “Bobbie Burns Lodge” nestled near Grizzly Ridge, Iceberg Lake and the Conrad Icefields, just 187 km west of Calgary. The lodge features a games room and a large lounge with fireplace, a large deck that extends off the lounge to the dining room and wraps around the side of the lodge. A large outdoor hot tub and sauna are also available.

Your Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1 Banff to Bobbie Burns Lodge
You will be met at your hotel and transferred to the heli-pad where a helicopter awaits you to whisk you into the Canadian wilderness. On arrival at the Bobbie Burns Lodge you will be given hiking gear (see inclusion & note below) and a hearty lunch will be served. After a helicopter safety lesson, you will take off with your guide for your first hiking experience amid the spectacular mountain scenery. A few hours later you will fly back to the lodge for a little free time before the dinner bell announces a delightful gourmet meal served by your hosts. Overnight at the Bobbie Burns Lodge.

Days 2 & 3 Exploring & hiking
Breakfast is served both days, after which you will spend your mornings exploring the local glaciers, lakes and high mountain ridges. A picnic or barbecue lunch will be served amid the spectacular scenery. The helicopter will return you to the lodge by late afternoon for a gourmet dinner, dessert and coffee. Overnight at the Bobbie Burns Lodge.

Day 4 End of package.
Enjoy a buffet breakfast before the first flight leaves Bobbie Burns at 9am. You will be returned to you pick up point in Banff.

What's not?

  • You will need to bring hiking boots, insect repellent, sunscreen, wool and thin socks, cotton pants for hiking, shorts, a lightweight sweater, sunhat, scarf, sunglasses & earplugs
