PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND
Prince
Edward Island is located off the eastern coast of Canada, nestled between
the provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Quebec and Newfoundland in
the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Charlottetown, the island's capital city, is
roughly 1600 kilometres from Toronto and 1000 kilometres from Montreal.
Charlottetown's latitude of 46'14" N placing it as far north as the south
of France, southern Hungary, the Mongolia- China border, and northern
Oregon The longitude of 63'08" W places it as far west as Venezuela, Argentina
and the island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean.
When the Mi'kmaq Indians first found this emerald
green Island many thousands of years ago they christened it Abegweit -
"land cradled by the waves". Jaques Cartier was probably the Island's
first tourist back in 1534 and later, the Fathers of the Confederation
chose it as the site to found a country.
