RAIL TRAVEL

There is something very special about taking the train in Canada. It's not so much the arrival that matters, it's the getting there. It was the railway that linked this vast country together and the train is very close to the essence of Canada.

Travelling across Canada from Toronto to Vancouver on the newly refurbished Canadian will take you a comfortable three days or so and encompasses nearly every type of scenery that the country has to offer. Winnipeg is the gateway to the north and the land of the Polar Bear and Hudson Bay and our 5 night Polar Bear Watching Tour to Churchill, Manitoba in the Wildlife and Adventure section, which includes a rail element to it, will get you into viewing range before you know it.

Spectacular mountain scenery can be enjoyed along the routes of the Rocky Mountaineer which travels between Vancouver and the Rockies resorts of Banff and Jasper or on The Skeena between Jasper and Prince Rupert over the Yellowhead Pass to the fabled Inside passage where you can connect with BC Ferries.

This too is now an all-daylight journey with all meals included and spectacular views available from the dome car. The urban east is served by a fast and punctual network of commuter or Corridor trains and, in addition, there are a number of special routes we have selected on smaller private and Provincial lines that are of particular interest to the visitor. If you don't fancy driving and a coach tour is not for you then think about your next visit to Canada in terms of the whispering rails - you will be pleasantly surprised!
