The Canadian is one of VIA Rail's most popular services. It travels between Toronto and Vancouver, crossing the picturesque lakelands of northern Ontario, the western plains and the splendid Rockies, finishing its journey on the Pacific coast.

A 3 night itinerary between Toronto and Vancouver, the “Canadian” is a train which has been restored to its original sleek 1950’s style and conveys the unique atmosphere of train travel during that era. Choose between the full 3 night journey across Canada or a shorter trip to Winnipeg, Edmonton or Jasper.

Comfort Class

Comfort class lets you travel at a very reasonable cost between Ontario and the Pacific coast, travelling via the Prairies and the Rockies. Sitting in your comfortable seat in the coach car, you can stretch out your legs on the footrest, lean back into the headrest and admire the scenery rolling by the window.

At night, a service attendant will offer you a pillow and blanket. Meals are not included in Comfort Class prices. However at all times, you can access the Skyline car's convenient take-away counter, as well as its friendly café during peak season. In off-peak season, you can elect to eat in the dining car, usually reserved for Silver & Blue class passengers. (meal costs are paid to the onboard attendant).

'Silver & Blue' Service

Silver & Blue class offers you high-class accommodation, superb meals and impeccable service - it's an unforgettable trip.

Sleeping cars rock you to sleep
With the other passengers in Silver & Blue class, you have exclusive use of the sleeping car, a haven of peace and comfort. You can choose between a berth or a single, double or triple bedroom.

Upper and Lower Berths
Upper berth accommodation is the most economical means of travelling in the comfort and quiet of VIA Rail's sleeping cars. Lower berth accommodation, slightly more convenient, costs only a few pounds more. By day, the two berths transform into two double seats that face each other. By night, the double seats give way to two cosy, comfortable beds, each equipped with a reinforced privacy curtain. Washroom and shower facilities are located only a few metres away in the same car.

Single Bedroom
The smallest sleeping car accommodation is the single bedroom, which features an entirely private space for one person. By day, you will enjoy a comfortable seat, by night a cosy bed. Each bedroom includes a fan, electrical outlet, private washroom, sink and mirror. The door locks from the inside and the shower is only a few metres down the hall.

Double Bedroom
The double bedroom provides an entirely private, onboard haven of peace and quiet. Each bedroom features two armchairs, a small closet, fan, electrical outlet, private washroom, sink and mirror. A small table can even be set up for you upon request. The door locks from the inside and the shower is only a few metres down the hall. By night, the two armchairs collapse to make way for two comfortable bunks, one upper and one lower.

Park car - panoramas and elegance
The Park car, at the rear of the train, is a peaceful environment combining elegance and comfort. Its three separate salons, reserved for the exclusive use of Silver & Blue class passengers, each have their particular charm. You'll want to sit back and relax, curl up with a good book, or perhaps chat with other travellers who have come from all over the world to enjoy this one-of-a-kind experience.

The Dome is an upper observation deck, where you have 360-degree views of impressive landscapes. Can there be a better way to see the Rockies? Below, in the curved 1950s-style bar, you'll be served aperitifs and a choice of fine domestic and imported wines. In the Bullet Lounge, with its huge wrap-around windows, you can settle back in stylish armchairs with a cup of afternoon tea and a good book. A variety of newspapers and magazines are available. Pass the time by getting to know other passengers. Once again, you have captivating views of the countryside unrolling behind the train.

The Dining car
Your Silver and Blue class fare includes all meals as appropriate to your journey.
The dining car is elegant but not pretentious, polished yet casual. Passengers find that its style and ambience combine with the spectacular views outside to create a special mood - whether at breakfast, lunch or any of the three evening sittings.

Smoking
The Canadian is an entirely smoke-free service. Smoking is not permitted anywhere on the train.
