BANFF SPRINGS HOTEL, Banff, Alberta

The Banff Springs Hotel is the most famous of the Canadian Pacific Hotels properties, situated in the Canadian Rockies community of Banff, jst a two hour drive from Calgary International Airport. This centruy old baronial-style castle features over 770 guest rooms, 12 restaurants, lounges and night-clubs, a 27 hole golf course, 3 tennis courts and a shopping arcade. Guestrooms are equipped with mini-bar, cable TV, in-room movies, hairdryer, radio, iron and ironing board.

BANFF SPRINGS GOLF COURSE
Score Magazine rates this course one of the top courses in Canada. With breathtaking views in every direction this is a captivating and challenging course. Meandering between Mount Rundle and Tunnel Mountain with the Bow River flowing through it, the Banff Springs course is a 27 hole championship golf complex that can be extremely taxing for amateurs and pro's alike if the 'mood' takes her.

SOLACE SPA at the BANFF SPRINGS HOTEL
The Solace Spa is an extensive facility offering spa treatments and services of the highest quality. An indoor and outdoor heated pool, whirlpool, sauna, steamroom, aerobics room, mineral water pools of varying temperatures and soothing waterfalls to relax under. After treatments, guests can relax in the spa lounge wher you can enjoy fresh fruit, herbal tea, coffee and cosy chairs next to a relaxing fireplace. FURRY CREEK GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB
Located 40 minutes from Vancouver, this 'Fairway to Heaven' is a unique mountainside course on the 'Sea to Sky' highway. Furry Creek commands a sweeping view of tranquil Howe Sound. On an ever-changing landscape, the par 72 layout follows forested mountainsides, creeks and granite cliffs, with terraced fairways skirting and crossing ravines and rocks, winding towards the sound's fjord. (Transfers to and from the course can be arranged at an additional cost).

THE SPA at the CENTURY
This is Vancouvers ultimate luxurious full-service spa, a virtual oasis for health and wellness. This elegant city resort hotel is situated in downtown Victoria, the capital of British Columbia, on the scenic Inner Harbour. The property has two restaurants, a lounge and one of the West Coast's leading European-style spas. Hotel facilities include parking, complimentary shuttle to downtown, an indoor heated pool, whirlpool, sauna and courts for tennis, squash and racquetball. Inn Harbour guest rooms have spectacular views of the busy harbour which bustles with activity during the day and glows with city lights at night.

OLYMPIC VIEW GOLF CLUB
Not only is Olympic View golf course surrounded with breathtaking views of the ocean and the Olympic Mountain range, but the landscape within its boundaries is also incomparable. With 12 lakes and 2 waterfalls to play around the course is tactically challenging but fun for handicaps of any level. A widely varied course with fairways of all shapes and sizes, this par 72 layout is known as 'shotmakers' course, as trees come into play on all 18 holes. If you complete this course within your handicap the first time you play it you can give yourself a hearty pat on the back and stand a round at the 19th!

CHATEAU WHISTLER RESORT HOTEL, Whistler, British Columbia

The fabulous Canadian Pacific Chateau Whistler is the resort's premiere hotel which sits nestled at the base of Blackcomb Mountain within a 10 minute walk of the popular Whistler village. This chateau style hotel offers guests a relaxing retreat from the hectic world. Guests enjoy spacious rooms, all of whic feature a phone, satellite TV, in-rrom movies, coffee-maker, 2 bathrobes, mini-bar and hair dryer. CHATEAU WHISTLER GOLF COURSE
The inspired Trent Jones Jr. layout sweeps players out of the clubhouse's valley and along the benches with irresistible invitations to linger on tees, fairways and greens to gaze up at Blackcomb and Whistler Mountains, or out over Green Lake, or down at the Village below. This remarkable mountainside golf course - winner of Golf Digest's Best New Canadian Course Award in 1993 - guides one along eminently playable and receptive fairways even while surrounding them with dramatic terrains, vertical climbs and plummets, massive granite outcroppings, glacier-melt creeks and majestic Douglas firs. As you enjoy the almost surreal natural beauty, you will be comforted in knowing that this is how generations of golfers will see the Chateau course. The surrounding land belongs to the Crown, the people of Canada, and cannot be developed.

But for all the grandeur of its setting, for all of its swing-halting views, Chateau Whistler is a superb test of golf. Yet Jones has managed to temper the inherently severe penalties the mountainside terrain could exact by deftly routing the holes. The problems - to golfers, but longed-for challenges to naturalists' and hikers' - trace the fairways rather than cross them. Ragged descents and climbs that only the local wildlife contemplate lie to the side of the holes.

No heroics are called for, no chasms have to be carried. The fairways are generous; it is nature's and Jone's art that deceives. Still, very few rounds from any of the four sets of tee boxes conclude without the professional staff having to clean every club in the bag. "...it is only natural that in the hands of world-renowned golf architect Robert Trent Jones Jr., the terraces surrounded by the glacier-capped Coast Mountains and overlooking the Village of Whistler would be transformed into one of his masterpieces...".

And after the round, relaxing on the patio having selected one of Chateau's vintages from the rack or one of the wide selection of imported and excellent local draft beers from the tap; or perhaps having just clipped one of the fine Cuban cigars - made exclusively for the Chateau - from the humidor; or comfortably settling in to savour one of the chef's daily creations, it is difficult to imagine a course design that would take fuller advantage of such a dramatic and beautiful tract of Coast Mountain terrain. And it is equally difficult to imagine a place you'd rather be.
