The one-day cruise of a lifetime!

Experience one of the world's truly scenic sea voyages aboard BC Ferries, as you journey through the enchanting Inside Passage between Vancouver Island and Prince Rupert, in northern British Columbia.

In 15 spectacular daylight hours (summer schedule only) you will see some of the most magnificent scenery Canada has to offer, as well as close-up views of the abundant marine and shore bound wildlife.

This is the land of the soaring eagle, Orca, seal and salmon as well as the moose and bear, who are the true inhabitants of this vast wilderness area and man just the occasional visitor. Enjoy the journey between historic Port Hardy and Prince Rupert from comfortable reclining chairs all affording excellent viewing through large picture windows. Naturally, you are also welcome to use the open observation deck.

On June 15, 1960, BC Ferries started out with two ships, two terminals, and around 200 employees. Fast-forward about 40 years and BC Ferries now has 40 vessels, and up to 46 destinations. Schedules include frequent, year-round sailings to some of the most fun, fascinating and often remote corners of the coast. The staff complement now exceeds 4,500, and their commitment to customer safety and service has never been stronger.

For a small supplement day cabins are available and the vessel has a wide range of modern amenities. You may travel as a foot passenger or with your vehicle, in either direction or, with an overnight break, make it a round trip voyage.

Starting Points

If you are driving northwards along the coast of Vancouver Island, the journey from Vancouver, including the ferry crossing to the Island, will take you the best part of a full day. The island looks small on the map but is almost as long as the United Kingdom! The drive from Victoria will take about as long. The coast road is a pleasant drive and traffic is rarely a problem.

PLEASE CONSIDER: A stop off in Campbell River for a little Salmon Fishing or a stop in Telegraph Cove for some Orca Whale watching! If you are coming 'up' from Victoria, a suggested stop is in Chemainus, to view the murals and, just down the road, the Native Heritage Centre for some unique gift ideas and a Totem Pole or two!

Do PLEASE book your accommodation in Port Hardy and Prince Rupert before you set out. They are both small towns and on "ferry nights" most hotels and motels are completely full.

If you are driving into Prince Rupert along the Yellowhead Highway from the East, you should plan to stop in Prince George and Smithers for the night if you are coming from Jasper or Edmonton. If you are arriving in Prince Rupert from the Alaska Marine Ferry system please do not make your connection too tight. Early morning mists can delay the Alaska Ferries and BC Ferries does not wait - ever!
