CAR RENTAL INFORMATION 2008

Rental Rates
All our rates include unlimited mileage (see below), Loss Damage/Theft Waiver (LDW), Premium Location Fees (PLC), additional driver (spouse or partner residing at the same address) airport fees, third party liability insurance and local taxes (see tax information below).

Rental Period
Rental Rates are based on a 24 hour time period commencing at the time possession of the car is taken. E.g. a car collected at 9am must be returned by 9am to avoid incurring late drop off charges or an extra days rental.

Rental Locations
Cars are available at most major towns and cities in Canada. Our reservations department will be able to advise you of the locations available. Cars are generally available for collection at either a downtown or airport location, (cars collected at an airport and returned downtown (or v.v.) may incur a small drop off charge). In locations where Thrifty do not have rental offices, or have limited availability (e.g Banff, Jasper & Alaska) we will provide car rental with an alternative rental company. Please note however that the rental conditions may differ to those shown here. Full information will be provided at the time of your enquiry/booking..

Rental Age
Minimum age is 21 years. Drivers aged 21 - 24 years are subject to “young driver fee” of $25 per day (fee payable locally). All drivers must hold a valid driver’s license held for a minimum of 2 years. A major credit card in the renter’s name is also required. (Note: Switch, Visa Delta or any other ‘Debit’ cards are not acceptable)

Fuel
All vehicles are provided with a full tank of fuel. There are two options available to you. You may purchase the full tank of fuel at the time of rental (no credit given for unused fuel on returning the vehicle). If you choose not to purchase the fuel, you must return the car with a full tank or a refuelling charge will apply.

Child Seats
Child seats are required by law for all children under the age of 4. These can be rented at a charge of approx $10 per day. A deposit may be required, both are payable locally. The seats are subject to availability and should be requested at the time of booking.

Additional Drivers
Additional authorised drivers are charged at approx. $10 per day payable locally (unless our enhanced rate is taken, where the first additional driver is included, see price panel for details).

Deposit - credit card only
A credit card imprint will be taken on collecting your car to cover extras which have not been pre-paid e.g. fuel, child seats, one way charges. The credit card MUST be in the name of the main driver. (Note: Switch, Visa Delta or any other ‘Debit’ cards are not acceptable).

Split rentals
Should your rental include some days in low season and some days in high season, the entire rental will be based on the rate applicable at the start of the rental.

Insurance
When vehicles are used in accordance with the terms and conditions of the rental, one million dollar liability cover is included.

Loss Damage / Theft Waiver
All our rates include Loss Damage / Theft Waiver. This relieves the renter or authorised driver of financial responsibility for loss or damage to the rental vehicle due to collision, theft or vandalism.

Personal Accident (PAI) and Personal Effects (PEC) Insurance
These are not included in your rental costs and are payable direct to the location.
PAI (approx CA$8 per day) covers accidental death and dismemberment benefits to the driver of the vehicle and its occupants.
PEC (approx CA$8 per day) covers against loss or damage to personal items for the renter and party travelling in the rented vehicle.
Your own travel insurance may cover these items, please check your policy.

One way rentals
Many one-way drop-offs are free with Thrifty. Please see the Rates page for further information.

Driving restrictions
Vehicles may be driven into any U.S. State (with prior agreement from the rental location) or any Canadian province, but must be returned to the same location unless a one-way rental has been reserved in advance. Car hire companies will not cover vehicles for damage sustained whilst travelling off-road or on unpaved roads. Any damage costs incurred whilst travelling on such roads will be the responsibility of the renter.

Refunds
We regret that we cannot provide any refund for any unused rental days shown on a voucher.

Taxes
All rentals are subject to provincial taxes and Goods & Service Taxes, however these are included in our rental prices for prepaid items. Any charges incurred locally (e.g. one way rental fees) will be subject to applicable taxes.

Please note : The taxes included in our rates are Provincial Sales Tax & Goods & Service Tax (GST). Not included are any additional taxes that may be imposed by specific rental locations. E.g. Gas/Road Tax - $1.50 per day (rentals in British Columbia), Fuel Consumption Tax $0.40-$4.40 (Rentals in Ontario), Vehicle Licence Fee - from $1.76, Premium Location Surcharge - from 12%.

At the time of printing the following locations have imposed charges that will be added to your rental cost. :
Calgary - Airport Imposed Fee £3 per day/£17 per week
Montreal - Customer Facility Charge $0.50 per day/£3 per week

Parking & Traffic Violations
Whilst weYou are responsible for reporting and paying all parking/traffic violations when returning your vehicle. Your credit card will be charged for any charges/fines/penalties issued to Thrifty in addition to an administrative fee, if you do not report a parking/traffic violation when returning your vehicle

Your Rental Agreement
Whilst we will confirm the reservation of your request, you will be required to sign a rental agreement before driving the vehicle in Canada. At this point your contract will be between yourself & the car rental company.

Important Information
Please check all charges listed on your rental agreement prior to authorising your credit card payment. Any queries should be brought to the attention of the car hire representative before leaving the rental station. We cannot be held responsible for any charges added to your rental agreement that were not disputed/checked at the time of the rental.
