Coast to Coast by Rail - 12 Days

Travel across Australia from East Coast to West Coast aboard The Indian Pacific Train, one of the world's longest and greatest train journeys. Your journey starts in Sydney, where you join the the first leg of your rail journey to Adelaide. Enjoy a stopover in Adelaide & Kangaroo Island, before rejoining the train to begin the journey across the treeless plains of The Nullarbor. Here the train travels the world's longest straight stretch of railway track (478 kilometres).

Day 1 - Arrive Sydney
On arrival in Sydney, you will be transferred from the Airport to your hotel by private car and driver. After checking in at your hotel the remainder of the day is at your leisure. Overnight in Sydney at your selected hotel.

Day 2 - Sydney
Start the day onboard a luxury catamaran for a morning coffee cruise. See the sights of spectacular Sydney Harbour as you enjoy a fresh coffee & cookies. After lunch (not included) join a Downtown Sydney, Bondi and Kings Cross tour. Tour Sydney’s bustling city precincts, admire the white sands of Bondi Beach and discover the beauty of gracious harbourside suburbs. Return to you hotel late this afternoon. Overnight at your selected hotel.

Day 3 - Sydney to Adelaide
Transfer to the Sydney Railway Station this morning (transfer not included) to board the Indian Pacific train for the overnight journey to Adelaide (see information box for more details of your train journey).

Day 4 - Adelaide to Kangaroo Island
Enjoy breakfast and lunch on the train. Arrive mid afternoon in Adelaide where you will be transferred directly to Adelaide airport for your flight to Kangaroo Island (included) and on arrival you will be met by a driver/guide and transferred to your overnight accommodation. Overnight at a small boutique hotel on Kangaroo Island. (dinner is included).

Day 5 - Kangaroo Island
After breakfast, join your Kangaroo Island tour. Visit the redgum forest along the Cygnet River valley, enjoy a delicious seafood barbeque lunch before heading to a colony of Australian Sealions. At Seal Bay Conservation Park walk with your guide among sealions on a beautiful sandy beach. Overnight at a small boutique hotel. (Meals included: Breakfast, lunch, dinner).

Day 6 - Kangaroo Island to Adelaide
Your exploration of Kangaroo Island continues with a tour along the coast to explore Remarkable Rocks, huge natural granite sculptures on the cliff top. Lunch today is a picnic in the bush before exploring more of the Island. At the end of the day transfer to the airport for your flight (included) back to Adelaide. On arrival a transfer is included to your city hotel.

Day 7 - Adelaide
A full day tour takes you to the famous wine growing region of the Barossa Valley. Visit three premium wineries and enjoy tastings of award winning wines and a delicious 3 course lunch. Return to Adelaide for your overnight stay.

Day 8 - Adelaide to Perth
Enjoy some leisure time until you transfer to the train station to reboard the Indian Pacific train. Continue your trans-continental journey across Australia.

Day 10 - Arrive in Perth
Enjoy breakfast on board the train before your arrival in Perth. This afternoon you will join a Perth City Cruise & Fremantle Tour. Sit back and relax as you spend an hour cruising the picturesque Swan River. After your cruise enjoy a tour of Fremantle’s bustling city centre before allowing you free time to discover all the character and charm of the port city for yourself. Overnight at your selected hotel.

Day 11 - Perth
Today is a day at leisure. Spend the day exploring or relaxing. Overnight at your selected hotel.

Day 12 - Depart Perth
You will be transferred by shuttle from your hotel to Perth Airport where sadly your tour comes to an end

This tour allows you to experience one of the most fascinating great train journeys of the world. Enjoy two nights aboard this great train and marvel at the spectacular Australian landscapes from fertile countryside surrounding Adelaide to the rusty hues of the Red Centre, onto the tropical splendour of the Top End. The Ghan is the ultimate journey through the heart of the continent.

Day 1 - Arrive Adelaide
On arrival in Adelaide, you will be transferred from the Airport to your hotel by private car and driver. After checking in at your hotel, the remainder of the day is at leisure. Overnight at the Medina Grand Treasury.

Day 2 - Adelaide
A full day tour takes you to the famous wine growing region of the Barossa Valley. You will visit three premium wineries and enjoy tastings of award winning wines and a delicious 3 course lunch. Return to Adelaide for your overnight stay.

Day 3 - Adelaide to Alice Springs
Transfer by shuttle coach from your hotel to the Keswick Railway Station to board The Ghan train for the overnight journey to Alice Springs.

Day 4 - Arrive Alice Springs
Enjoy breakfast and lunch on the train. Arrive in Alice Springs this afternoon* and join an area tour visiting the Royal Flying Doctor Service Base, School of the Air and Telegraph Station. Overnight in Alice Springs at the Alice Springs Resort. (*Subject to the arrival time of the Ghan train, some components may be modified)

Day 5 - Alice Springs to Kings Canyon
Depart Alice Springs this morning and travel to the exclusive Kings Canyon Wilderness Lodge, set in a typical Central Australian bush environment among the Desert Oak trees. Enjoy a guided walk of the rim of Kings Canyon. Dinner tonight is under the stars around the campfire (weather permitting). Overnight at the Kings Canyon Wilderness Lodge.

Day 6 - Kings Canyon to Ayers Rock
After breakfast join a tour of Kings Creek Station, for a chance to spot wild camels, kangaroos and other wildlife. See ancient Aboriginal petroglyphs (rock engravings) before departing for Uluru. This afternoon join a guided walk into majestic Walpa (Olga) Gorge. Enjoy a glass of wine as you admire the colours of Uluru at sunset. Overnight at the Sails of the Desert.

Day 7 - Ayers Rock to Alice Springs
Watch the sunrise over Uluru then join Aboriginal guides and a language interpreter for the Liru Walk. Depart Ayers Rock Resort for your return journey to Alice Springs. Overnight at the Alice Springs Resort.

Day 8 - Alice Springs to Darwin
A full day tour begins with grand views of the West MacDonnell Ranges from Anzac Hill. Visit Simpsons Gap, well known for friendly rock wallabies and walk alongside the picturesque riverbed before entering Angkerle (Standley Chasm), breathtaking fiery red walls, standing 80 metres in height. After a delicious picnic lunch return to town and transfer to your onward train journey. Reboard the Ghan and settle into your cabin for the overnight journey to Darwin.

Day 9 - Arrive Darwin
The Ghan is the ultimate journey through the heart of the continent. Arrive late afternoon into Darwin and transfer by private vehicle from the rail station to your hotel. Overnight at at the Saville on the Esplanade.

Day 10 - Darwin
The morning is at leisure. Join a city tour this afternoon for the perfect introduction to Darwin. Tour the historic sites of the city including the East Point Military Precinct, the Stokes Hill Wharf area and the Mooring Basin. After the city sights tour you will be dropped off at the “Spirit of Darwin” at Cullen Bay Marina for a cruise on magnificent Darwin Harbour where you can relax and enjoy a beautiful sunset in paradise. Return to your hotel (transfer not included).

Day 11 - Depart Darwin
You will be transferred by shuttle from your hotel to Darwin Airport where your tour comes to end.
