Hertz Car Rental

Rental Rates - Our rental rates include unlimited mileage, damage cover for the Hertz vehicle & third party property (subject to excess, see below), third party injury liability, GST (goods & services tax) and state / government taxes and fees. Rates differ between metropolitan and remote locations (please see price panel).

Rental Duration - Rates are calculated per vehicle per day calculated on a 24 hours period. For example a car collected at 9am would need to be returned at 9am on the drop off date to avoid incurring late drop off charges or an extra day’s rental. Vehicles must be returned to the location on the rental agreement during normal Hertz business hours.

Rental Locations - Vehicles are available for rent from over 60 locations across Australia. Please check with our reservations department for your chosen location. Collections are  usually available from both downtown and airport depots. We strongly recommend you collect your vehicle from a downtown location as airport collections incur a daily surcharge. You may choose to pay either the airport concession fee which is payable locally (as described opposite under 'additional fees') or alternatively pay the "Airport Surcharge" as shown within our price panel.

Bond Payment
A rental bond of $440 for all vehicle types must be paid at the start of the rental by an international credit card (American Express, Diners, Mastercard or Visa). The bond may also be paid by cash in Australian Dollars or Travellers Cheques on application (please request this option at time of booking). If the vehicle is returned undamaged and with a full tank of fuel, the bond will be refunded. The credit card used to pay the deposit must be in the name of the authorised renter, third party cards are not accepted.

One Way Rentals - One way rentals are permitted between most locations and are usually free of a one-way fee. However some routes do incur a one way fee which is payable directly to Hertz when collecting your car. The correct fee for your chosen routing will be advised at the time of booking.

Driver Age - The minimum rental age is 21 years. Drivers aged 21-24 are required to pay a surcharge of $30.25 per day (up to maximum of $211.75) direct to Hertz on collection. No restrictions apply to drivers aged 25 and over. There is no maximum rental age, however a medical certificate is recommended for drivers over 75 and the rental pick up location reserves final discretion in permitting a rental to a driver over 75.

Driving License - Renters must have a valid driving license which has been held for at least 1 year. The licence should be in English, or accompanied with a certified English  translation or a current international drivers permit.

Additional Drivers - Additional drivers are permitted free of charge, however minimal rental age and other requirements will be the same as for the renter. Additional drivers must be authorised on the rental agreement at time of booking.

Global Positioning System (GPS)  - The Hertz portable satellite navigaton system Neverlost is available at participating locations subject to availability. A daily charge of $15.40 (inc. taxes) per day is payable direct to Hertz on collection. We recommend you request these at time of booking. The renter is liable for any loss or damage to the Neverlost system.

Additional Fees - Airport concession fee recovery is payable for rentals collected at airport locations. This will vary according to the airport and range from 7½ - 20% and is to be paid directly to Hertz on collection of the vehicle. It is possible to pre-pay this fee by paying the airport surcharge shown in the price panel

A concession recovery fee is  applicable to all rentals commencing at Ayers Rock downtown location and will be applied at the rental counter on collection. The renter is responsible for any parking or speeding fines and for any toll charges. An administration fee of $33 will be applied per fee / charge.

Most toll roads are fully electronic (without tollbooths), so you are advised to purchase an e-pass on collection, otherwise the administration fee will be applied to each applicable toll charge.

Driving Restrictions - Your Damage Cover may be void if you drive into any restricted regions or areas without prior consent from Hertz (such areas may attract higher excess levels or require additional insurance to be purchased). Areas restricted include (but are not limited to) unsealed & non tarmac roads, beaches, remote areas, driving above the snow line, and dusk to dawn driving in Northern Territory, Exmouth & Kangaroo Island. Full details of driving restrictions are available on request.

Child Seats - Child seats are available on request at a rate of $16.50 per day (maximum charge of $82.50 per rental), payable directly to Hertz on collection (rates subject to change). Hertz provide baby seats for infants up to 6 months old, child seats for 6 month-2 years old and booster seats for children ages 2 and over. Please request these at time of booking.

Roadside Assistance - In the unlikely event of a breakdown to your rental vehicle, Hertz offer a 24 hour roadside assistance with free-phone number.

Vehicle Types - Makes and models can not be guaranteed and may vary. In some instances Hertz may not be able to supply the vehicle type reserved in which case an upgrade will be given at no extra charge.

Accident Damage Excess & Excess Reduction - Depending on the type of vehicle you hire, the stardard excess will range from $3,300 - $4,400 per incident that the vehicle is involved in. You have the option to reduce this by purchasing either Hertz’s Accident Excess Reduction (AER), or their MAX cover. The price of these addtional covers vary depending on vehicle type hired and the rental location, but typically are from $27 per day for the AER and from $37 per day for the MAX cover. MAX cover can be pre-paid (see below price panel).

AER Cover Includes: Reduction in damage excess (typically to $1100, however exceptions apply) and tyre & windscreen  cover (not applicable to 4WD vehicles). Please note this is not available in certain remote locations where only the MAX cover can be purchased.

MAX Cover Includes: Reduction in excess to zero, windscreen cover to all vehicle types and tyre cover for all vehicles excluding 4WD. Please note all insurance cover is void if the vehicle is immersed in water or if overhead or underbody damage occurs.

Your Rental Agreement - Whilst we will confirm your reservation, you will be required to sign a rental agreement before driving your vehicle at the collection depot. Please ensure you fully understand all the terms and conditions of the rental before signing the agreement. Once signed, your contract will be between yourself and the Hertz Car Rental.

Our rates are based on collections from Hertz "Metro" (downtown) locations. These include the downtown offices in the major cities of Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Melbourne, Perth & Sydney, plus other major towns and cities.

Airport Locations
A surcharge of between £8 per day applies for vehicles collected from airport offices (supplement correct at time of printing). This surcharge covers fees levied by airport authorities to the car rental company. We recommend that you avoid this surcharge by collecting your vehicle from the downtown locations. Additionally cars are generally not required within the city, so by only collecting your vehicle when you are leaving the city and beginning your self journey, you will also avoid costly hotel parking fees.

Remote Location Surcharge
A supplement applies for "Remote" locations. These include (but are not limited to) Alice Springs, Ayers Rock, Broome, Darwin, Katherine & Kingscote (Kangaroo Island) plus other locations considered by Hertz to be remote. Our consultants will quote the relevant rate for your selected locations.

All Wheel Vehicles
These are available from selected locations, including (but not limited) to Alice Springs, Ayers Rock, Broome, Cairns, Darwin, Hobart, Katherine, Launceston & Melbourne.

Daily Rental Rates (Downtown Collections)

Please contact us for rates on vehicle types not shown (Premium, Minivan and All Wheel Drive vehicles) and for longer rentals of 21+ days.

MAX Insurance Upgrade - The rates shown above include standard insurance with the standard excess fee of $3300-4400 per incident. For a supplement of £19* per day you can include the MAX insurance cover which reduces the excess to NIL.
