Your Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1 - Melbourne to Lorne (140km)
Pick up your rental vehicle and leave Melbourne and drive to Lorne, the
seaside resort nestled between mountains and ocean. We recommend your
first stop of the day be Geelong, best viewed from Ceres Lookout. A drive
along the waterfront depicts Geelong's past and present, the old mansions,
wool stores and piers and the new industries, wharves and container terminal.
Drive through Torquay, the surf centre of Victoria. Beyond Anglesea is
the start of the Great Ocean Road, one of the world's most spectacular
Scenic Coastal routes. Accommodation: Lorne Main Beach Motor Inn (Green
Flag Pass)
Day 2 - Lorne to Port Fairy (233km)
Depart Port Fairy and head for the coastal town Apollo Bay, from there
the road climbs over the Otway Ranges before reaching Port Campbell National
Park, the home of the 12 Apostles. Ensure to stop at all the vantage points
to view Loch Ard Gorge, London Bridge to name but a few. The town of Warrnambool
is also worth visiting. Accommodation: Seacombe House Motor Inn (Pink
Flag Pass)
Day 3 - Port Fairy to Mount Gambier (171km)
Follow the Princess Highway and depart Victoria for South Australia. Pass
through Portland and maybe take a detour to Bridgewater Bay, a wild pristine
piece of coast. Just a short drive and you reach South Australia and head
for Mount Gambier and the Blue Lake. Accommodation: International Motel
Mount Gambier
Day 4 - Mount Gambier to Adelaide (459km)
Perhaps explore the Tantanoola Caves before departing the Mount Gambier
region. Return to the coastline and the fishing townships of Beachport,
Robe and Kingston. Don't forget to take a picture of "Larry the Lobster"
one of Kingston's icons! Enjoy a walk through the German town of Hahndorf
before entering Adelaide through the Mount Lofty Ranges. Accommodation:
The Grosvenor Vista
Day 5 - Adelaide
Drop off your rental car before departing Adelaide.
