Ocean Spirit Cruises offers a choice of two sailing catamarans.
Ocean Spirit I travels daily to Michaelmas Cay, while Ocean Spirit II visits Upolu Cay, also operating daily.

All snorkelling equipment is provided for you on the rear deck. We recommend you snorkel with a friend and stay in the designated areas. For those who have never snorkelled before, or if you would like to learn more about the reef, a complimentary guided snorkel tour is available and please book this with our Reef Naturalist prior to arrival at the cay.

Destinations

Michaelmas Cay is a tiny coral island located on a reef some 40 kilometre northeast of Cairns. This low, vegetated coral cay, which hosts the 5th most important seabird rookery in the southern hemisphere being home to thousands of ground-nesting seabirds. The island is a national park of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.

Upolu Cay is an uninhabited sand and coral cay lying about 18 Nautical miles from Cairns, often chosen as a nesting site by sea turtles and an ideal destination for a range of different age groups.

Your Itinerary

8.30 am: Depart Cairns Safety brief including snorkelling and scuba diving presentation.
9.00 am: Signup for snorkelling tours, semi submersible and scuba diving. Ensure bookings to avoid disappointment.
10.00 am: Distribution and fitting of snorkelling and diving equipment.
11.00 am: Arrive at Michaelmas/Upolu Cay. Fish feeding presentation. Commence morning activities. Shuttle to Beach and return approximately every 20 minutes. Guided snorkelling and reef interpretation tour with our marine naturalists. Semi submersible tours. First scuba dive.
12.00 pm: Lunch is served. Finished at 1.00 pm.
1.00 pm: Continuation of afternoon activities. Ferry to Beach. Sunbathing. Semi Submersible Tours. Snorkelling, diving and relaxing.
2.15 pm: All aboard Afternoon tea, sign off safety sheet. Depart Michaelmas/Upolu Cay.
3.00 pm: Shop opens.
3.30 pm: Live entertainment and enjoy a glass of complimentary champagne.
5.00 pm: Arrive in Cairns

Free Trial of Scuba Diving

Let us show you how fun and easy and safe scuba diving really is with a resort dive. Believe it or not, Scuba Diving is a actually easier than snorkelling. All you need to be is 12 Years of age or older and you qualify to try scuba diving for the very first time on the Great Barrier Reef!

Start in the shallow waters of the sand Cay, and once you are comfortable with the basics and feel confident, we then give you the option of an exhilarating underwater tour with your instructor. Visit our spectacular coral gardens, and meet our resident fish and turtles! The first 10 minutes is free-try before you are required to buy!

If you wish to participate in the underwater guided tour, the additional cost is $85. If you love it, you can even do a second dive for only an additional $48. Subject to a Medical Questionnaire.

Certified Diving for Experienced Divers

For the experienced diver, we access the best dive sites of the day with our custom built dive tender. Our experienced dive instructors will give a full site briefing and ensure you have a first class dive on the Great Barrier Reef.
