Day 1 Sun. Alice Springs, Standley Chasm, West MacDonnell National Park
Welcomed on arrival Alice Springs Airport for transfer to hotel. After you've settled in, enjoy our afternoon sightseeing tour including views over the township from Anzac Hill. Drive through the West MacDonnell National Park, stopping to visit Simpsons Gap and the colourful narrow cleft of Standley Chasm. Meet your fellow travellers tonight with pre-dinner welcome drinks and canapes hosted by your crew. Overnight: Alice Springs Resort.

Day 2 Mon. Ayers Rock, Sunset Drinks (B)
Visit School of the Air to see how children of the remote outback receive their education, and the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Travel south, passing vast cattle stations on our way to Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Early evening, drive out to sunset strip and enjoy pre-dinner drinks while watching a magnificent sunset over Ayers Rock (Uluru). Overnight: Ayers Rock Resort, Desert Gardens Hotel for 2 nights - deluxe Rock View Rooms.

Day 3 Tue. Olgas, "Dine Around" (BD)
Morning climb to the summit or walk around the base of Ayers Rock. Visit the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre and Maruku Arts and Crafts Gallery where you can purchase original artifacts from the aboriginals. Alternatively, join the "Liru Walk" as you hear the history of Uluru from aboriginal guides (additional). Explore the Olgas this afternoon before our "Dine Around Dinner" - your choice from an array of restaurants in the resort's hotels. Or, listen to the haunting tunes of the didgeridoo as you experience the famous "Sounds of Silence" - an unforgettable opportunity to dine in the solitude of the Australian desert under the great Southern Skies (must be pre-booked).

Your Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1 Sat: Darwin
You will be met on arrival at Darwin Airport (flights prior to 2.30pm, airfare not included). Tonight enjoy dinner and a welcome drink with your Tour Director and fellow passengers. Accommodation: Carlton Hotel, Darwin. (D)

Day 2 Sun: Darwin - Kakadu
Enjoy a brief orientation tour of Darwin. This morning visit the Territory Wildlife Park, a great introduction to the Top End. Continue to Kakadu National Park and visit the Bowali Visitors Centre. This afternoon there is the opportunity for an optional scenic flight over Kakadu. Accommodation: Gagudju Crocodile Hotel, Jabiru, 2 nights. (BD)

Day 3 Mon: Kakadu
Cruise along the East Alligator River bordering the rocky escarpment of Arnhem Land. Numerous saltwater crocodiles and birds may be seen. We generally have an Aboriginal guide with us and with the special permission of the local people will be able to go ashore in Arnhem Land. Later walk around Ubirr and view Aboriginal rock art dating back some 20,000 years. (BD)

Day 4 Tue: Kakadu - Katherine
Join a wildlife cruise on Yellow Water Billabong. Our local guide will keep us well informed about the birdlife and vegetation of the region. Hopefully we will see the estuarine crocodiles that inhabit many of Kakadu's river systems. Later visit the Warradjan Cultural Centre. Travelling south we leave Kakadu and pass through Pine Creek. This afternoon we make a stop at Edith Falls, where there is time for a refreshing swim. Arrive in Katherine late afternoon. Accommodation: Knotts Crossing Resort, Katherine, 2 nights. (BD)

Day 5 Wed: Manyallaluk
Travel to Manyallaluk and join our Aboriginal guides for a walk through the bush. Learn a little about bushtucker and traditional bush medicines. See damper being prepared and when cooked, enjoy the warm damper with a barbecue lunch. This afternoon join in the activities including traditional bark painting, fire lighting, spear throwing, playing the didgeridoo and learning the craft of basket weaving. (BLD)

Day 6 Thu: Katherine Gorge
Join an early morning cruise along the Katherine River. The towering gorge walls provide shelter to many species of birds and animals as they nest amongst the vines and creepers clinging to the damp crevices in the sandstone walls. On our return journey to Darwin we stop at the historic Adelaide River Inn and Adelaide River War Cemetery. We have left this evening free, you may wish to visit the Mindil Beach Markets (seasonal) which is an entertaining evening. Accommodation: Carlton Hotel, Darwin, 2 nights. (B)

Day 7 Fri: Litchfield National Park
Travel to Litchfield National Park and enjoy a swim in tropical Wangi Falls. View beautiful Florence Falls and Tolmer Falls. Upon return to Darwin enjoy a visit to the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory. You may wish to end this wonderful day by joining an optional dinner with your fellow passengers. (B)

Day 8 Sat: Depart Darwin
Morning at leisure for last minute shopping or to relax by the pool. You will be transferred to the airport transfer to connect with your onward flight (flights anytime, airfare not included). (B)

Day 1 Mon. Port Augusta (BD)
Passengers from Adelaide join 11.00 a.m. Travel north to Port Augusta and visit Wadlata Outback Centre for an interpretive outback experience. Overnight: Port Augusta, Standpipe Golf Motor Inn.

Day 2 Tue. Coober Pedy (BD)
Pass the Woomera Rocket Range to the opal-mining town of Coober Pedy. Opals were discovered here in 1915 and today sees thousands of mines in the area. Sightseeing includes a visit to an underground home, church and Umoona Opal Mine. Overnight: Coober Pedy, Desert Cave Hotel.

Day 3 Wed. Ayers Rock, Red Centre (B)
Our destination today is the unique desert lands of the Northern Territory. Leaving Coober Pedy, visit the Breakaways, a low range of sandstone outcrops featured in the film premier, "Priscilla Queen of the Desert". 12-Day passengers fly to Ayers Rock and transfer to hotel. On arrival in Kata-Tjuta National Park we drive out to sunset strip for pre-dinner drinks while taking in a magnificent Uluru sunset. Day 4 Thur. Ayers Rock, Olgas (BD)
Few words can describe your first sighting of Ayers Rock (Uluru), the mighty monolith rising some 1050 feet from the desert plain. This morning you have the option to climb to the top or take a walk around the base, viewing aboriginal art sites and caves. Alternatively, join the "Liru Walk" with aboriginal guides (must be pre-booked, additional US$35, Cdn$45). Drive out to the Olgas (Kata Tjuta) before our "Dine Around Dinner" tonight - your choice from three restaurants in the resort's hotels. Day 5 Fri. Kings Canyon Rim Walk (BD)
You will be entranced by the natural beauty of Kings Canyon today. For the energetic, climb to the rim for spectacular views. From here, walk through the eerie rock formations of the "Lost City" and down into the "Garden of Eden", a permanent waterhole surrounded by lush palms. Overnight: Kings Canyon Resort, Range View Rooms.

Day 6 Sat. Standley Chasm, Alice Springs (B)
By special permit, we journey through aboriginal land and scenic desert landscapes to the West MacDonnell National Park. See the colourful cleft of Standley Chasm, and Simpsons Gap. Overnight: Alice Springs Resort for 2 nights.

Day 7 Sun. Alice Springs Desert Park, Pioneers Barbecue Dinner (BD)
The morning is free to explore Alice Springs at your own pace. In the afternoon, visit the Desert Park where you can wander through three different desert habitats and learn of the plants and animals living within. After this we visit the historic Telegraph Station and Royal Flying Doctor Service. Relax by the camp-fire this evening at our special Pioneers Barbecue. Sample local specialties of kangaroo, beef steak and damper (bush bread). Tonight is our millennium celebration. Gather with your crew and fellow travellers for a drink with our compliments.

Day 3 Mon. Port Augusta (BD)
Enjoy the city sights of Adelaide. Travel to South Australia’s mid-north, a region noted for its fine wines and historic towns. Day 4 Tue. Coober Pedy (BD)
Travel the Stuart Highway passing the giant salt pan of Lake Hart, to Coober Pedy, the world’s largest opal-producing centre. Tour Umoona Mine, and see opal cutting and polishing demonstrations. Due to a lack of available timber and the extreme environment, many of the locals have gone underground. Enjoy a guided tour of an underground home and church. Day 5 Wed. Ayers Rock, Red Centre (B)
Travel across remote desert plains before crossing into the Northern Territory, passing the region’s vast cattle stations. Day 9 Sun. Alice Springs Desert Park, Pioneers Barbecue Dinner (BD)
This morning is at leisure to explore ‘The Alice’ or relax by the pool. This afternoon visit the Desert Park with interactive displays on the desert ecosystem. Day 10 Mon. Bond Springs Ranch (BD)
Enjoy a visit to School of the Air which provides schooling to the children of the ‘Outback’. Travel north to Bond Springs Station set on 1500 square kilometres. Enjoy a rare insight into the workings of a remote cattle station during our guided tour. Cross the Tropic of Capricorn and then explore the unusual boulders of Karlwekarlwe (Devils Marbles). Day 11 Tue. Mataranka Thermal Pool (BD)

Katherine is renowned as the gateway to Nitmiluk National Park, with its spectacular gorges – thirteen in all, formed by the Katherine River cutting its way through the Arnhem Land plateau. Enjoy a cruise between the striking sandstone walls of Katherine Gorge with the local guide providing informative commentary. Kakadu National Park is rich in flora, wildlife, birdlife and natural scenic features, including ancient escarpment country. Enjoy a cruise on the East Alligator River, between Kakadu and Arnhem Land. Accompanied by an Aboriginal guide, you will learn about Aboriginal culture, bush tucker, flora and the region’s history. Day 14 Fri. Wildman Mary River Cruise, Fogg Dam, Darwin (B)
Travel to the Wildman River Conservation Reserve for one of the best wildlife cruises in the tropical north. Explore the Mary River and its wildlife, waterlilies and mangroves. Discover the beauty of Litchfield National Park, a huge sandstone plateau where cascading waterfalls descend into crystal-clear rock pools. Enjoy a swim in Wangi Falls and visit Florence Falls. Pass the unusual magnetic termite mounds of the Top End as we continue into Darwin. Relax with new friends whilst enjoying a Farewell Poolside Dinner. Accommodation: Novotel Atrium for 2 nights. Day 3 Mon. Spear Creek Station
Experience a taste of true Australia today at Spear Creek Cattle and Sheep Station. Tour the property in 4-wheel drive vehicles viewing kangaroos, emus and some of the 4000 sheep and 200 cattle. Camp: Spear Creek Station. (BD)

Day 4 Tue. Coober Pedy, Opals
We head north to the opal-mining town of Coober Pedy. Enjoy the sights including a visit to an underground home, church and opal mine. Accommodation: Coober Pedy, Umoona Mine, underground dugouts (multi-share). (BD)

Day 5 Wed. Uluru (Ayers Rock), Sunset Drinks
Our destination today is the desert lands of 'The Territory'. After we've set up camp, travel out to sunset strip for pre-dinner drinks while witnessing a magnificent sunset over Uluru. Camp: Ayers Rock Resort for 2 nights. (BLD)

Day 6 Thur. Uluru, Kata Tjuta, (Olgas)
A chance to climb Uluru early morning and stand 350 metres above the vast 'Outback'. Explore around the base, see Aboriginal rock art and caves before driving out to Kata Tjuta. (BD)

Day 7 Fri. Kings Canyon
Be entranced by the beauty of Kings Canyon today. Climb to the plateau for views of towering orange walls, then down into the 'Garden of Eden' waterhole, surrounded by lush palms. Camp: Kings Canyon Resort. (BLD)

Day 8 Sat. Angkerle (Standley Chasm)
We travel through Aboriginal land to Hermannsburg. See the colourful cleft of Angkerle as we tour the West MacDonnell Ranges and the Royal Flying Doctor Service in Alice Springs. Camp: Red Centre Resort for 2 nights. (BLD)

Day 9 Sun. Alice Springs
Today is free to explore at leisure. Perhaps take the opportunity to greet the early morning with a hot-air balloon flight over the ranges (own expense). (B)

Day 10 Mon. Karlwekarlwe (Devils Marbles)
Wander sacred Karlwekarlwe, an unusual scattering of boulders in the desert landscape. Bush Camp: Daly Waters. (BLD)

Day 11 Tue. Katherine Gorge
Cruise Visit the School of Air in Katherine before a guided cruise in Katherine Gorge to learn of the plants and wildlife, which inhabit the gorges. At nightfall, kangaroos emerge and wander freely through our camp within the national park. Camp: Nitmiluk National Park. (BD)

Day 12 Wed. Kakadu National Park
Enter World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park. Visit beautiful Gunlom Falls and Warradjan Cultural Centre, with interpretive displays. Camp: In the heart of Kakadu National Park. (BLD)

Day 13 Thur. East Alligator River Cruise, Ubirr Aboriginal Rock Art Site, Darwin
Enjoy a spectacular cruise of the East Alligator River, between Kakadu and Arnhem Land. Accompanied by an Aboriginal guide, learn first-hand about the area. This morning a Savannah Guide will take us through a section of the ancient lava tubes, created some 190 000 years ago. This morning we visit the Alice Springs Desert Park. There is time to walk around the Park and learn about Australia's unique desert marsupials and reptiles. Day 3 Tue: Kings Canyon
There is time for the fit and energetic to make the climb to the rim of Kings Canyon. Alternatively, you may wish to explore the boulder-strewn Canyon floor. Your Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1 Tue: Melbourne - Adelaide (Tours NMD, NMA and NZZD start here)
Depart Melbourne at 7.30am and travel via the Western Highway through Ballarat and Horsham. This afternoon cross the border into South Australia. See the Murray River before travelling through the Adelaide Hills and into the 'City of Churches'. Other passengers (Tour Code: NZZD) fly to Adelaide. You will be met on arrival and transferred to your hotel. This evening enjoy dinner and a welcome drink with your Tour Director and travelling companions. Accommodation: Stamford Plaza , Adelaide. Day 2 Wed: Adelaide - Flinders Ranges
This morning see the sights of Adelaide. Travel through the Clare Valley wine region and sample some local wines, before continuing into the Flinders Ranges. Late this afternoon you may like to take a short walk into Wilpena Pound. Accommodation: Wilpena Pound Resort, Wilpena Pound. (BD)

Day 3 Thu: Flinders Ranges - Port Augusta
Enjoy some time at Wilpena Pound this morning, see the original Wilpena Homestead or, for the energetic, you may wish to take the walk to Wangarra Lookout. Inspect the National Parks Information Centre and watch for wildlife. This afternoon travel to Port Augusta. Accommodation: Standpipe Golf Motor Inn, Port Augusta. (BD)

Day 4 Fri: Port Augusta - Coober Pedy
Visit Woomera, established in 1947 as an experimental rocket launching site, before travelling to Coober Pedy. In the Aboriginal language Coober Pedy means 'white man's hole in the ground'. Join a local tour of this unique town and visit the underground gallery or the underground bar. Accommodation: Desert Cave Hotel, Coober Pedy. (BD)

Day 5 Sat: Coober Pedy - Ayers Rock (Tour NUD starts here)
Leaving South Australia we enter the Northern Territory, crossing the Erldunda and Mt Ebenezer cattle stations before arriving at Ayers Rock Resort. 12 day passengers (Tour Code: NUD) fly to Ayers Rock this morning. You will be met on arrival and transferred to your hotel. Enjoy a glass of wine and nibbles as you watch sunset over Uluru (Ayers Rock). Accommodation: Sails in the Desert Hotel, Ayers Rock Resort, 2 nights. (B)

Day 6 Sun: Ayers Rock - The Olgas
An early start for those wanting to climb Uluru or you may prefer to take a guided walk around parts of this spectacular monolith's base. Enjoy an escorted walk to Mutitjulu Waterhole and see the caves and rock paintings of Uluru which play a significant role in the Aboriginal legends. This afternoon travel to Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) and walk into Olga Gorge. Enjoy sunset viewing with sparkling wine and continue on to enjoy an Aussie barbecue dinner followed by a stargazing talk. Day 7 Mon: Ayers Rock - Kings Canyon
This morning travel to Kings Canyon. Walk to the rim of the Canyon. An easier, but equally scenic walk along the Canyon floor is also available. Accommodation: Kings Canyon Resort -Rangeview Rooms. (BD)

Day 8 Tue: West MacDonnell Ranges
This morning travel to Alice Springs and visit Standley Chasm and Simpsons Gap in the West MacDonnell Ranges. Stop at the Alice Springs Desert Park where there is time to explore the Park and learn about some of Australia's unique desert animals. Accommodation: Alice Springs Resort, 3 nights. (BD)

Day 9 Wed: Aboriginal Cultural Tour
This morning we will meet a local Aboriginal guide and learn how to find 'bush tucker' and use traditional weapons and implements. This afternoon visit the Royal Flying Doctor Service, historic Telegraph Station, School of the Air and Anzac Hill. (BD)

Day 10 Thu: Alice Springs at leisure
Today is at leisure, we recommend an optional tour by 4WD into Palm Valley. You may like to join an optional dinner tonight. (B)

Day 11 Fri: Alice Springs - Tennant Creek (Tour NMA ends)
11 day passengers (Tour Code: NMA) conclude today after breakfast. Travel north across the Tropic of Capricorn. Photograph the Devils Marbles, enormous round boulders rising suddenly from the surrounding plain. Continue to the gold mining town of Tennant Creek and tour an underground mine. Accommodation: Eldorado Motor Lodge or Bluestone Motor Inn, Tennant Creek. (BD)

Day 12 Sat: Mataranka Thermal Springs
Visit historic Daly Waters before entering the 'Never Never Country' of the Northern Territory. This afternoon visit the beautiful Mataranka Thermal Springs. Swimming is delightful in this natural outback spa. Arrive in Katherine late afternoon. Accommodation: Paraway Motel, Katherine.

Enjoy an early morning cruise through Katherine Gorge in Nitmiluk National Park. Entering Kakadu National Park, join a cruise on Yellow Water Billabong. Accommodation: Gagudju Crocodile Hotel, Jabiru. (BD)

Day 14 Mon: Kakadu National Park
This morning visit the Ubirr rock art site. Opportunity for an optional scenic flight over the Arnhem Land Escarpment. Stop at the Bowali Centre, before travelling to Darwin and enjoy a brief city orientation tour upon arrival. Accommodation: Rydges Plaza, Darwin, 2 nights. (BD)

Day 15 Tue: Litchfield National Park
Stop at the Territory Wildlife Park and view a wide variety of native wildlife in their natural habitat. Travel to Litchfield National Park and swim in the serene crystal clear pool at tropical Wangi Falls. You may wish to end this wonderful day by joining an optional dinner this evening. (B)

Day 16 Wed: Depart Darwin
Morning at leisure. You will be transferred to the airport to connect with your onward flight (flights after 12.30pm, airfare not included). (B)
