Your Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1 Mon: Arrive Melbourne
You will be met on arrival at Melbourne Airport and transferred to your
hotel by luxury car (flights prior to 6.00pm, airfare not included). This
evening enjoy a welcome drink and dinner with your Tour Director and travelling
companions on board the Colonial Tramcar Restaurant, an award-winning
1927 tram converted to a first class restaurant. Accommodation: Stamford

Day 2 Tue: City Sights - Penguin Parade
Enjoy a morning tour of Melbourne including the Royal Botanic Gardens,
St Paul's Cathedral, Parliament House and the Shrine of Remembrance. This
afternoon travel through the prestigious bayside suburbs of Melbourne
to Phillip Island. Visit the Koala Conservation Centre and see these unique
Australian marsupials in their natural environment. Later, observe the
nightly ritual of the famous Penguin Parade as the little penguins march
up the sand to their nesting places. Return to Melbourne late evening.

Day 3 Wed: Puffing Billy - Healesville
From the quaint township of Belgrave join Puffing Billy, Australia's oldest
operating steam train. Journey through the rich forests of the Dandenong
Ranges. Rejoin your coach and travel to Healesville Sanctuary. You will
enjoy a great Aussie lunch, followed by a guided tour through the park
to learn about Australia's native wildlife. (BL)
Day 4 Thu: Melbourne - Alice Springs
You will be transferred to Melbourne Airport for your early morning breakfast
flight to Alice Springs (flights prior to 1.00pm, airfare not included).
On arrival enjoy a tour of this outback town. Visit the historic Alice
Springs Telegraph Station, Royal Flying Doctor Service, School of the
Air and enjoy the panoramic views from Anzac Hill Lookout before returning
to the hotel. Accommodation: Alice Springs Resort.
Day 5 Fri: Ayers Rock - The Olgas
Depart early for Uluru (Ayers Rock), stopping at a camel farm where you
can try your hand riding 'a ship of the desert'. This afternoon travel
through desert plains to Kata Tjuta (the Olgas). The size and grandeur
of these 36 masive domes of conglomerate red rock will amaze you. Take
a walk to the Valley of the Winds Lookout and gaze down the central valley
of Kata Tjuta. After sunset with sparkling wine, enjoy a delicious Australian
barbecue dinner and stargazing. Accommodation: Desert Gardens Hotel, Ayers

Day 6 Sat: Ayers Rock
Rise early to view Uluru at sunrise. The fit and energetic may choose
to climb to the summit. Tour the caves at the base of Uluru and hear stories
of the Aboriginal Dreamtime. This afternoon is at leisure to enjoy the
facilities at Ayers Rock Resort. Enjoy a glass of wine this evening while
watching the sunset over Uluru from the special viewing area known as

Day 7 Sun: Ayers Rock - Cairns
This morning is free for shopping and relaxation. You will be transferred
to Ayers Rock Airport for your lunchtime flight to Cairns (airfare not
included). You will be met on arrival at Cairns Airport and transferred

Day 8 Mon: Great Barrier Reef Cruise
Board the Great Adventures high speed catamaran to the Outer Reef. View
the coral and fish from a semi-submersible craft. Snorkelling gear is
included (extra charge for scuba). A marine biologist will give an informative
presentation on this living wonder. Enjoy a buffet lunch on-board the
Great Adventures pontoon. (BL)
Day 9 Tue: Kuranda - Skyrail - Tjapukai
Experience a spectacular rail journey aboard the famous Kuranda train.
Travel high into the Tablelands, through 15 tunnels and over 40 bridges
to the picturesque township of Kuranda. Return to the lowlands via the
unique Skyrail Cableway above the rainforest. Be entertained at the internationally
renowned Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park, where legends of the Dreamtime
are brought to life. Enjoy free time this afternoon in Cairns. (B)
Day 10 Wed: Cairns - Sydney
You will be transferred to Cairns Airport for your flight to Sydney (airfare
not included). You will be met on arrival at Sydney Airport and transferred

Day 11 Thu: City Sights - Harbour Cruise
Cross the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge and stop at Milson's Point to photograph
the fabulous views of the Sydney skyline. Visit the well known surf beach
of Manly and stroll along the beach. Experience a breathtaking view of
Sydney Harbour from Arabanoo Lookout. Travel through the historic 'Rocks'
area to Circular Quay where you will join your Sydney Harbour luncheon
cruise. After lunch reboard your coach and travel past the Botanical Gardens,
stopping at Mrs Macquarie's Chair. Journey to Watson's Bay and The Gap
before arriving at famous Bondi Beach for a short stop. Return to the
city through Paddington, Chinatown and Darling Harbour. (BL)
Day 12 Fri: Blue Mountains
Visit the spectacular Blue Mountains. Stop at the Skyway and Scenic Railway,
where there is the opportunity for an optional ride. Enjoy the views of
the Three Sisters before visiting Featherdale Wildlife Park. Pass Homebush
Bay, site of the 2000 Olympic Games on return to Sydney. This evening
you may like to enjoy an optional farewell dinner arranged by your Tour

Day 13 Sat: Depart Sydney

Morning at leisure. At midday, board the Captain Cook luncheon cruise
on famous Sydney Harbour. This afternoon, tour the city including Hyde
Park, Opera House, the Botanic Gardens and cosmopolitan Kings Cross.
Day 3 Sat. Blue Mountains (B)
Today we explore the rugged Blue Mountains National Park. Visit Echo Point
for sweeping views of the Three Sisters, Jamison Valley, Scenic Railway
and Skyway, soaring high above Cox's Crossing. Continue to the Australian
Wildlife Park where you can have your photo taken with a koala, hand-feed
kangaroos and see other Australian fauna and flora.
Day 4 Sun. Sydney, Alice Springs, West MacDonnells,
Standley Chasm (B)
Transfer for morning flight to Alice Springs in the heart of the "Red
Centre". After you've settled in, it's time to explore. Travel through
the West MacDonnell National Park, stopping to visit Simpsons Gap and
Standley Chasm, a spectacular 9 metre break in the Range blazing red in
colour. Overnight: Alice Springs Resort.
Day 5 Mon. Ayers Rock (B)
Visit School of the Air and the Royal Flying Doctor Service before travelling
south to Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Drive out to sunset strip and
enjoy pre-dinner drinks as you watch the colour changes of Ayers Rock
at sunset. Overnight: Ayers Rock Resort, Desert Gardens Hotel for 2 nights

Day 6 Tue. Ayers Rock, Olgas (BD)
Few words can describe your first sighting of Ayers Rock (Uluru). Opportunity
to climb to the top or take a stroll around the base, viewing aboriginal
rock paintings and caves. Alternatively, join the "Liru Walk" with local
aboriginal guides, (must be pre-booked, see below). Visit the Cultural
Centre and Maruku Arts and Crafts Gallery before driving out to the Olgas.
Dine as you please this evening with our "Dine Around Dinner" - your choice
from three selected restaurants. Alternatively, enjoy the famous "Sounds
of Silence" dinner (must be pre-booked, see below).
Day 7 Wed. Kings Canyon (BLD)
Travel through remote desert terrain to Kings Creek, a huge cattle station
also specialising in camel herding for export. This afternoon we arrive
in Watarrka National Park and Kings Canyon. For the energetic, climb to
the canyon rim for views of the sheer red walls and surrounding countryside.
Walk through the eerie rock formations of the "Lost City" and lush "Garden
of Eden" oasis. Overnight: Kings Canyon Resort, Range View Rooms.
Day 8 Thur. Glen Helen, Ormiston Gorge, Ochre Pits,
Alice Springs (B)
Leaving Kings Canyon, our drive takes us through aboriginal land to Glen
Helen. Visit Ormiston Gorge and the Ochre Pits, originally quarried by
aboriginal tribes for use as body paint. Overnight: Alice Springs Resort
for 2 nights.
Day 9 Fri. Aboriginal Desert Discovery Tour, Pioneers
Barbecue Dinner (BD)
Join a guided aboriginal discovery tour through the bush for an insight
into aboriginal Tjukurpa (Dreaming), desert living and survival. The afternoon
is yours free before our Pioneers Barbecue Dinner. Dine on local cuisine,
relaxing afterwards with a glass of wine or port while listening to Australiana
bush tales.
Day 10 Sat. Desert Park, Cairns (B)
Tour the Desert Park this morning and stroll through three different desert
habitats containing a variety of unique animal, bird and plant life. Join

Day 11 Sun. At Leisure in Cairns (BD)
You might choose a leisurely breakfast before stepping out to explore
Cairns. Cruise to one of the nearby islands, visit the Pier Marketplace

Tubes (own expense). Tonight, enjoy a barbecue dinner poolside.
Day 12 Mon. Great Barrier Reef, Fitzroy Island, Coral-Viewing

An unforgettable experience as you spend the day on the Great Barrier
Reef - one of the greatest wonders of the world. Cruise to the national
park of Fitzroy Island, surrounded by coral reef then out to Moore Reef.
You have the afternoon free to swim and snorkel or ride in the glass-bottom
boat over the colourful coral gardens.
Day 13 Tue. Kuranda, Port Douglas (BD)
Join the Kuranda Train as it winds its way up the mountain range to Kuranda.
See the Pamagirri Aboriginal Dancers perform at Rainforestation, join
a Dreamtime Walk and visit the wildlife enclosure. This afternoon's touring
takes us into the lush rainforest of Mossman Gorge before arriving in
Port Douglas. Relax with pre-dinner drinks tonight in one of the Tree
Houses at the resort. Overnight: Port Douglas, Radisson Treetops Resort.
Tonight is our millennium celebration. Gather with your crew and fellow
travellers for a drink with our compliments. Day 14 Wed. Skyrail, Dunk
Island (BD) Ride the Skyrail Cableway this morning over World Heritage
rainforest. Tour the Atherton Tablelands including the unusual Curtain
Fig Tree and a guided wildlife cruise on Lake Barrine. Overnight: Dunk

Spend the day as you please on this tropical island paradise. Join a guided
nature walk to view the orchids and native flowers, stroll through the

Our drive today takes us through the exclusive resort town of Noosa Heads,

En route to Adelaide, journey through Mildura and the Barossa Valley,

Tour the delightful city of Adelaide. Travel north to Port Augusta, situated
at the 'crossroads of Australia' where the major road and rail routes,

DAY 4 Wed. Coober Pedy, Opals (BD)
Coober Pedy, Australia's richest opal field, is our destination today.
Take a town tour with a local guide visiting an underground home and church.

DAY 5 Thur. Marla, Ayers Rock Resort (BD)
See the 'Breakaways' landscape en route to Marla. Cross the border into
the Northern Territory and view the Mt Connor mesa before arriving at

DAY 6 Fri. Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, Uluru

It's an early start for those wishing to climb Uluru or walk around its
base to view caves, waterholes and Aboriginal art sites. We visit the
Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre and inspect the Maruku Arts and Crafts
Gallery before heading to Kata Tjuta, 36 vividly coloured dome shaped
rocks. Return to 'The Rock' for sunset.
DAY 7 Sat. Kings Canyon, Alice Springs (BD)
Head to Kings Canyon in the Watarrka National Park to climb the rim for
spectacular views of the 'Lost City' and lush 'Garden of Eden', or explore
its shaded floor. Continue to Alice Springs. Accommodation: Alice Springs,

DAY 8 Sun. West MacDonnell Ranges, Alice Springs

On our visit to Alice Springs Desert Park, see Australia's unique desert

view the famous Devils Marbles, a curious pile of spherical granite boulders.

Pass through Renner Springs and Daly Waters, then stop in Elsey Station

DAY 11 Wed. Katherine Gorge, Yellow Water Billabong
Cruise, Kakadu (B)
Cruise spectacular Katherine Gorge in Nitmiluk National Park. Our guide
will detail the area's history, wildlife and explain the Aboriginal rock
paintings which adorn many walls within the gorge. Continue on to Kakadu
National Park for an afternoon cruise on Yellow Water Billabong. Accommodation:
Kakadu, Gagudju Lodge Cooinda.
DAY 12 Thur. Kakadu National Park, Ubirr Aboriginal
Art, Darwin (B)
In Kakadu National Park, visit Ubirr and Bowali Visitor Centre. Stop at
the birdlife reserve at Fogg Dam, then on to Darwin. The Mindil Beach
Sunset Market is held this evening (May to Sept.). Accommodation: Darwin,

DAY 13 Fri. Darwin (BD)
Take a city sights tour of Darwin this morning including the museum and
Fannie Bay Gaol. The afternoon is free to relax.

DAY 16 Mon. Fitzroy Island, Outer Barrier Reef Cruise,

Today takes us to Fitzroy Island and on to the Outer Barrier Reef to view
coral from a semi-submersible, a glass-bottom boat or by snorkelling.
Take a guided snorkelling tour and enjoy a tropical lunch. Tonight is
free for you to discover the tastes of Cairns.
DAY 17 Tue. Rainforestation, Pamagirri Aboriginal
Dancers, Port Douglas (B)
At Rainforestation, see the Pamagirri Aboriginal Dancers perform, take
an Aboriginal Dreamtime Walk and visit the wildlife enclosure. We continue
to Port Douglas. Accommodation: Tropical Port Douglas, Radisson Reef Resort.
DAY 18 Wed. Curtain Fig Tree, Millaa Millaa Falls,
Mission Beach (B)
Today, see the Curtain Fig Tree and Millaa Millaa Falls. You can take
a cruise on the volcanic waters of Lake Barrine (own expense). We stop
at Crawford's Lookout before continuing to Mission Beach. Accommodation:

DAY 19 Thur. Daydream Island (BD)
Journey to Cardwell, a popular holiday hideaway and tour Townsville, Australia's
largest tropical city. Continue to Airlie Beach and Shute Harbour, from

Cross the Tropic of Capricorn and travel to River Heads for a cruise to

Join a local guide in a 4-wheel drive vehicle and explore the island,

the Glass House Mountains en route to Brisbane, where 24 Day passengers

This morning's tour of Melbourne includes Victoria Market, the iron-laced

Day 8 Sun. Melbourne, Alice Springs, West MacDonnell
National Park
Your morning flight arrives in Alice Springs, situated in the heart of
the Red Centre. Join an afternoon sightseeing tour, including views over
the township from Anzac Hill. Drive through West MacDonnell National Park,
stopping to visit Simpsons Gap and Angkerle (Standley Chasm). Accommodation:

Day 9 Mon. Uluru (Ayers Rock)
This morning our town tour takes us to the School of the Air and the Royal
Flying Doctor Service; learn of their importance to the isolated communities
of the 'Outback' regions. As we travel south towards Uluru-Kata Tjuta
National Park, enjoy the mulga plains and unbroken horizon. On dusk, enjoy
pre-dinner drinks and the ever changing colours of Uluru (Ayers Rock)
at sunset. This dramatic monolith with its striking caverns and gullies
is deservedly one of Australia's most famous features and our time exploring
this area will be a highlight of the Red Centre. Accommodation: Ayers

Day 10 Tue. Uluru, Kata Tjuta (The Olgas)
This morning enjoy the option to climb to the top of Uluru (Ayers Rock)
or tour around the base, viewing Aboriginal rock paintings and caves.
Perhaps take a guided tour with the traditional owners (see details below).
Visit the Cultural Centre and Maruku Arts and Crafts Gallery before driving
out to the magnificent domes of Kata Tjuta (Olgas). Dine as you please
tonight with our Dine Around Dinner - your choice from a selection of
restaurants within the resort's hotels. Alternatively, an unforgettable
memory will be the 'Sounds of Silence' dinner in the solitude of the desert

Day 11 Wed. Uluru, Cairns
Today's flight lands in the tropical city of Cairns in far north Queensland.
Welcomed on arrival and transferred to your hotel. Enjoy the rest of the
day at leisure. Relax or explore the local delights of this modern vibrant

Day 12 Thur. Great Barrier Reef Cruise, Fitzroy Island,
Coral Viewing
Today brings a truly unforgettable memory as we spend the day on the Great
Barrier Reef, one of the world's natural wonders. Discover the incredible
beauty of this marine phenomenon and gain an appreciation of the importance
of preserving both the reef, and its inhabitants. Our first stop is on
the national park of Fitzroy Island where there is free time to explore,
relax on the white coral beach or join a guided rainforest walk. Our cruise
then continues to Moore Reef where the afternoon is free to swim and snorkel,
or ride in the glass-bottom boat over the colourful coral gardens and

Day 13 Fri. Skyrail, Pamagirri Aboriginal Dancers,
Kuranda Train
Join the Skyrail Cableway this morning as we skim the canopy of World
Heritage rainforest. Visit Rainforestation Nature Park. See the renowned
Pamagirri Aboriginal Dancers, on a stage set within the rainforest. Their
dancing portrays their fascinating culture and history. Join a guided
Dreamtime Walk and try throwing a boomerang, before boarding the amphibious
Army Duck as it travels both on land and in the water. Learn of the fragile
ecosystem of the surrounding rainforest. Journey on to the village of
Kuranda, nestled amongst the lush rainforest of the Macalister Range.
On market days, the village comes alive with vibrant colour and energy
as local artists display their craftsmanship. Return to Cairns on the
Kuranda Train as it winds its way down the mountain range. The construction
of this railway was a tremendous engineering feat that enabled the settling
of North Queensland. Pass waterfalls and rainforest, ravines and gorges,
descending from 360 metres at the summit, to arrive at sea level in Cairns.

Day 14 Sat. Cairns
Today is at leisure. Take a stroll along the walking tracks linking Centenary
Lakes Parkland or the Flecker Botanic Gardens; featuring exotic trees,
shrubs and palms, and a wide variety of native birdlife. Transfer to Cairns

Day 2 Wed: Adelaide - Flinders Ranges
This morning tour the sights of Adelaide. Travel through the Clare Valley
and sample some local wines, before continuing into the Flinders Ranges.

Day 3 Thu: Flinders Ranges
Enjoy time at Wilpena Pound this morning, see the original Wilpena Homestead

Day 4 Fri: Port Augusta - Coober Pedy
Visit Woomera, before continuing to Coober Pedy and join a tour of this
unique town. Visit an underground church and home. Enjoy a drink in the

Day 5 Sat: Coober Pedy - Ayers Rock
Travel into the Northern Territory, arriving at Ayers Rock Resort mid-afternoon.
This evening view the changing colours of sunset over Uluru and enjoy

Day 6 Sun: Ayers Rock - The Olgas
An early start for those wanting to climb Uluru (Ayers Rock) or you may
prefer to take a guided walk around parts of the spectacular monolith's
base. Enjoy an escorted walk to Mutitjulu Waterhole and see the caves
and rock paintings important to the Aboriginal people of Uluru. Travel
to Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) and walk through Olga Gorge. Enjoy sunset over
Kata-Tjuta with sparkling wine and continue on to enjoy an 'Aussie Barbecue'

Day 7 Mon: Ayers Rock - Kings Canyon
This morning travel to Kings Canyon. Climb to the Canyon rim and enjoy
breathtaking views. An easier, but equally scenic walk along the Canyon

Day 8 Tue: West MacDonnell Ranges
Leaving the Watarrka National Park behind we travel to Alice Springs.
Visit Standley Chasm and Simpsons Gap. At the Alice Springs Desert Park
there is time to explore the Park and view native Australian animals.

Day 9 Wed: Aboriginal Culture - Town Tour
Meet an Aboriginal guide and learn how they use their weapons and implements.
Sample bush tucker and watch Aboriginal dances. This afternoon visit the
Royal Flying Doctor Base, School of the Air, historic Telegraph Station
and Anzac Hill. (BD)
Day 10 Thu: Alice Springs at leisure
Today is at leisure, we recommend an optional tour by 4WD into Palm Valley.

Day 11 Fri: Devils Marbles - Tennant Creek
Travel north to the Devils Marbles, enormous round boulders rising from
the surrounding plain. Continue to the gold mining town of Tennant Creek.

Travel through the 'Never Never Country' of the Northern Territory. This
afternoon visit Mataranka Thermal Springs, where there is time to take

Day 13 Sun: Katherine Gorge Cruise
Enjoy a cruise through Katherine Gorge. Entering Kakadu National Park,
join a cruise on Yellow Water Billabong. Watch for the fearsome saltwater
crocodile and the variety of birds that inhabit these waters. Accommodation:

Day 14 Mon: Kakadu National Park
Opportunity for an optional scenic flight over the Arnhem Land Escarpment.
This morning visit the Aboriginal rock art site at Ubirr. Stop at the
Bowali Visitor Centre, before travelling to Darwin. Enjoy a city orientation
tour this afternoon. Accommodation: Rydges Plaza, Darwin, 2 nights. (BD)
Day 15 Tue: Litchfield National Park
Stop at the Territory Wildlife Park and view native wildlife in their
natural habitat. Experience the beauty of Litchfield National Park, swimming
in the serene crystal clear pool at tropical Wangi Falls. You may wish
to join an optional dinner this evening. (B)
Day 16 Wed: Darwin - Cairns
Transfer to Darwin Airport to connect with your flight to Cairns (flights
to arrive prior to 9.00am, airfare not included). On arrival, join your
Queensland Tour Director and board the Skyrail Cableway to Kuranda. Next
stop is the Rainforestation Nature Park. Journey through the rainforest
on an amphibious Army Duck. After lunch, we return to Cairns on the Kuranda

Day 17 Thu: Tjapukai - Port Douglas
Today we visit Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park. Travel north to Port
Douglas. The afternoon is free to explore Port Douglas and beautiful Four

Day 18 Fri: Great Barrier Reef Cruise
Board the famous Quicksilver wavepiercing catamaran and cruise out to
Agincourt Reef. Opportunity for swimming and snorkelling over the reef

Day 19 Sat: Lake Barrine Cruise
Today we climb high into the tropical plateau known as the Atherton Tablelands.
Cruise on the crater of Lake Barrine. View Millaa Millaa Falls and the
famous Curtain Fig Tree before our journey south to Townsville. Accommodation:

Day 20 Sun: Whitsundays
This morning we have breakfast with the animals at the Billabong Sanctuary.

Day 21 Mon: Hamilton Island at leisure

Return to the mainland after breakfast. Travel along the Sunshine Coast
