Calling all "would-be" cowboys
!
Our selection of guest ranches feature
accommodation on resort and working ranches alike, where you will get
a real taste of what it is like to be in the saddle. It also gives the
opportunity to be able to learn new skills and see America's vast countryside
as you explore the surrounding trails.
At each ranch you will find generous
home cooking, comfortable but generally basic accommodation, a genuine
warm welcome and many memories to take home and tell all your friends
and family. No prior riding skills are necessary and absolute beginners
are more than welcome at all ranches, some may even offer the chance to
join ranch hands as they tackle the chores of ranch life.
You should bring your own gear, including
rainproof clothing and items such as gloves, a hat or scarf and cowboy
or riding boots or hard-soled shoes with heals (which are required for
riding.) Please note that hiking boots are not appropriate for riding
and don't forget the insect repellent or sunscreen too!
Horseback riding and caring for one
of the magnificent creatures you will ride has also proven to be highly
therapeutic in dealing with the stresses and pressures of the way we live
in this modern era. We know that after one of these holidays, you will
be just hankerin' to get back into the saddle again at the first possible
opportunity!

Ranch at Ucross, Clearmont, Wyoming
A
luxury resort located on the banks of Piney Creek, 20 miles from the Big
Horn Mountains.
The legends of the Old West are true !! The Old West
still lives on the banks of Piney Creek. It lives beneath the sandstone
cliffs and on the wide-open prairie. You can see it in the faces of the
cowboys who spend their days herding cattle. And it lives in the hearts
and mind of the people who visit the historic Ranch at Ucross.
The first to admire the "fine, wide valley at the
mouth of the Piney" was Charles Waegele who built the Homestead House,
which stands today virtually unchanged since 1912. He also planted the
noble cottonwood trees that provide wide swaths of shade for their guests.
The Ucross area remains open and unspoiled much as
it was when the only hint of civilisation was a single post office tenuously
connecting the ranch to the world beyond. Climb to the top of the Big
Horn Mountains and you will bear witness to this great history, the pulse
and feel of the wide-open prairies and the echo of the Old West.
Activities are a plenty at the ranch - just some
of the activities are…
Fishing
Golfing (2 nearby golf courses)
Tennis
Hiking in the Big Horn Mountains
Horseback riding
Swimming
Jacuzzi
After all these activities you can relax by a warm
open fire in the main living room of the lodge, just like the original
ranchers. And when it's time to retire, the historic Ranch House features
four beautifully restored bedrooms. More accommodation is provided in
the Cottonwoods Annex building and in the Cowboy Cabins.
