Calling all "would-be" cowboys !

Our selection of guest ranches feature accommodation on resort and working ranches alike, where you will get a real taste of what it is like to be in the saddle. It also gives the opportunity to be able to learn new skills and see America's vast countryside as you explore the surrounding trails.

At each ranch you will find generous home cooking, comfortable but generally basic accommodation, a genuine warm welcome and many memories to take home and tell all your friends and family. No prior riding skills are necessary and absolute beginners are more than welcome at all ranches, some may even offer the chance to join ranch hands as they tackle the chores of ranch life.

You should bring your own gear, including rainproof clothing and items such as gloves, a hat or scarf and cowboy or riding boots or hard-soled shoes with heals (which are required for riding.) Please note that hiking boots are not appropriate for riding and don't forget the insect repellent or sunscreen too!

Horseback riding and caring for one of the magnificent creatures you will ride has also proven to be highly therapeutic in dealing with the stresses and pressures of the way we live in this modern era. We know that after one of these holidays, you will be just hankerin' to get back into the saddle again at the first possible opportunity!

Tanque Verde Ranch, Tucson, Arizona

Located on 640 acres in the foothills of the Rincon Mountains east of Tucson, Tanque Verde Ranch today offers a year-round, active, vacation destination. Our guest rooms, dining, and recreation are what you'd expect at a 4 Star property; however the ultimate attraction of the Tanque Verde Ranch is its breathtaking natural setting. Bordered by the Saguaro National Park and the Coronado National Forest, your nearest neighbours are the desert wildlife. The ranch's facilities and professional staff ensure that each individual guest will enjoy every moment of their stay.

At Tanque Verde Ranch, your choices for fun are many: horseback riding into the scenic Saguaro National Park on one of the 130 mounts, rallying on one of the 5 tennis courts, hiking over miles of spectacular trails up into the Rincon Mountains, mountain biking, exploring nature on guided walks through the lush Sonoran Desert, swimming under the warm Arizona sun, a round of golf at a nearby championship golf course, relaxing after an energetic day in our indoor Health Spa all followed by a gourmet dinner.

A fully supervised children's program provides a fantastic ranch experience for kids ages 4 to 11! 12 years old may opt in or out of the program. It is divided into two age groups, the 4-6 year olds (Buckaroos) and the 7-11 year olds (Wrangler Kids). The program is very active, incorporating riding along with tennis, swimming, nature programs, games, arts and crafts, and other activities for a vacation experience that will not soon be forgotten!

The ranch is famous for its delicious and abundant food. Weekly evening outdoor barbecues with live Western entertainment and breakfast rides up to the Old Homestead for a cowboy breakfast in the great outdoors add an Old West touch to the mealtime. With the exception of the cookouts and breakfast rides, all meals are served in the lovely Main Dining Room, overlooking the outdoor pool, with a majestic view of the Rincon Mountains.

After dinner, Country Western dance instruction or stimulating programs on the desert flora and fauna, Native American Indians, or local Southwestern Arts and Crafts, round out an active day. The 71 authentically decorated rooms and suites are fully air-conditioned and offer beautiful desert and mountain views. Ranch at Ucross, Clearmont, Wyoming

A luxury resort located on the banks of Piney Creek, 20 miles from the Big Horn Mountains.

The legends of the Old West are true !! The Old West still lives on the banks of Piney Creek. It lives beneath the sandstone cliffs and on the wide-open prairie. You can see it in the faces of the cowboys who spend their days herding cattle. And it lives in the hearts and mind of the people who visit the historic Ranch at Ucross.

The first to admire the "fine, wide valley at the mouth of the Piney" was Charles Waegele who built the Homestead House, which stands today virtually unchanged since 1912. He also planted the noble cottonwood trees that provide wide swaths of shade for their guests.

The Ucross area remains open and unspoiled much as it was when the only hint of civilisation was a single post office tenuously connecting the ranch to the world beyond. Climb to the top of the Big Horn Mountains and you will bear witness to this great history, the pulse and feel of the wide-open prairies and the echo of the Old West.

Activities are a plenty at the ranch - just some of the activities are…

  • Fishing
  • Golfing (2 nearby golf courses)
  • Tennis
  • Hiking in the Big Horn Mountains
  • Horseback riding
  • Swimming
  • Jacuzzi

After all these activities you can relax by a warm open fire in the main living room of the lodge, just like the original ranchers. And when it's time to retire, the historic Ranch House features four beautifully restored bedrooms. More accommodation is provided in the Cottonwoods Annex building and in the Cowboy Cabins.
